If you look down, you go down. That may be fun at an orgy, but it sucks on a bike
you know its the same as a 1098 with a smaller displacement. I have not seen the stats, but from the way it looks it is identical to the 1098...just like the 749 was to the 999...so if in previous threads you said you were not a fan of the 1098, go back and change it!

The 749R really should not be in this discussion....its a totally different bike than the 749 or 749s (from what I have read and heard) and the 848 will be no 749r. The geometry, materials, frame, suspension etc are nothing alike. The 848 will be what the smaller displacement bikes are to the liter bikes. If you want a smaller displacement bike go for it, if you want a larger one, go for it.

my grandpappy told me so.
besides same reason i droped the r1 for the 636. 848 will be lighter and nimbler and more fun (for me) on the street and the track.
Kinda like why you take your Motard to the track and not the 1098![]()

There will be slightly less rotating mass, but I dunno as the overall weight will be all that different from a 1098. Unlike the Japanese 4s, which run different base motors in their 600s from their liter machines, the 848 is going to have the same crankcases and basic head as the 1098, just an altered crank and barrels. Not much room to shave weight there.
Ok, now I gotta start comparing the two and see where they shaved 20lbs. Although depending on what year 999r, it's not a fair comparison... what's a base 749 dress out to compared to a base 999? (Lil quick trip to Ducati.com...
06 749 - 415lbs
06 999 - 410lbs
The 999 is actually 5lbs lighter. Why is the 999r heavier than a base 999?! (Oh, you were looking at 04s which listed wet weight, 06s list dry weight like everyone else.) Looking at 06 r's, the 999r still comes out slightly lighter, 405lbs for the 749r to 399lbs for the 999r.
Looks snazzy in big bird yellow too

Based on the word from the duc forums (which is speculation), the 848 will NOT be lighter than the 1098 just like 749's were heavier than 999's. The 04 749R had full carbon body work which is why it was lighter (I think) but the standard model 749's were the same weight or heavier than the 999 counterparts.
I just want to be clear that I'm NOT knocking the 848. Im sure it will be great. Its just funny to hear people praising it before its been seen, ridden or tested and at the same time saying they like it WAY better than a bike that is basically the same, excluding the extra power, which they probably have not ridden...
