Do any of you Ducati guys out there know why the service manual says to pull the rear wheel to change out the rear sprocket? I just bought a quick change carrier and and will be installing it today. I can't for the life of me see why it is necessary to remove the rear wheel. What am I missing?
Thanks.
You'll see why when you go to put the quick change on. The whole reason they made the quick change carrier was so you don't have to pull the rear wheel for a sprocket change. If you didn't with the stock one there wouldn't be much point in swapping the carrier now would there.

It's been a while but I seem to remember the wheel has to come off to change the sprocket as there are 12MM or 17MM Allen heads on the back of the sprocket studs that you need to get to. Again, it's been a while since I did a sprocket on a 998.
I pulled the sprocket today, nothing connected to the wheel. The quck change allows you to change out the sprocket without pulling the axle nut and sprocket carrier from the sprocket side but I see no reason to pull the wheel with or without the quick change carrier. Is there something different on the 748 maybe?
