Well I sold my 900ss to Degsy this past weekend and brought this home last night. 2001 BMW R1100S Light. Every panel aside from the tank and seat panels is BMW carbon, Ohlins front and rear, Staintune exhaust, tuned ECU, K&N, blah blah blah. Forgot to take 'before' pictures but already started cleaning it up within minutes of getting it in the garage. It's in relatively good shape aside from some rusty fasteners which I've pretty much already replaced. Just needs some cleaning and waxing along with the usual tires, brakes, fluids, etc. Also came with some super trick solid carbon valve covers and other parts. Excited for some long trips next year.

BMW motorcycles are "Beemers." I'm told they make automobiles as well.
Yankee Beemers is the largest BMW owner's club in the US. They have awesome events.

Real nice.
You don't see many people using a speed wrench nowadays![]()
And don't believe everything you think.
haha the speed wrench is from my race mechanic days, invaluable tool.
The bike has cleaned up quite nice and I didn’t have any nasty surprises as I went through it. It looks like I’ll have to send the front damper to Ohlins to be serviced as there is a bit of oil leaking out of it. I did it with the ducati and think the rebuild was around $160, so not too bad. The rear seems to be alright. It desperately needs some new tires and I’m waiting for some fresh plugs and fluid to arrive for the motor, gearbox, and final drive unit. Outside of that, some fresh rubber and I should be good to go. The service stand that came with the bike is great, it’s basically a removable center stand with a long lever to jack the back end up. I’ve replaced all of the corroded hardware with stainless fasteners so it’s looking quite fresh now. One thing I’m not sure what to do about is the carbon rear fender. It’s in really sorry shape. It looks like all of the clear coat has yellowed and flaked off so it’s very rough and not something I’ll be able to polish back to life.

a friend of mine used to be a Beemer mechanic (did i get that right?) and said the cheapest part on those bikes was the rider.
He had, still does I think, an R1100 or R1150 one of those and loves it. He rode the thing all over the country. I was surprised when riding with him is was every bit a quick as my 748 when goofing off on the street.

Nice ...FTWCO sticker....
The more people I meet, the more I like my dogs.....
I might be the only guy on a BMW with FTWco stickers haha. Good group of guys there. They put me on their race squad this past year for RallyMoto.
Well since you are updating your new BMW thread, i should at least tell you what i have done so far on the Duc.
Parked it in the garage.
Lol. Havent had a minute to touch it.
My choice for tires would be PR3s, great prices at BikeBandit.
And don't believe everything you think.
You haven't even sat on it and made revving noises?
The PR3's were exactly what I was looking to get, nice to hear some unsolicited recommendation on those.
I just put a pair on my Hyper. Had them on my Griso 1100, totally transformed the handling.

What kind of mileage to you guys see out of these? I know they're dual compound so hopefully they have some longevity for the highway miles.
I am a 'fun sized' guy riding a 650cc ADV styled thing. The mileage you see out of that 1200cc sporty-ish bike will be completely different. I also don't keep very good records of when I put the tires on.
That said.. I get something like 7-9k out of the couple rears and 14-18k out of the one front I have been through.
I have run the PR2 and PR3 rears. I can't tell the difference; the PR3 looks cooler with the extra sipes, but costs more.
I have only run the PR3 front as they don't make a PR2 front for my application.
