Ducati service close-(ish) to the Cape

My wife bought a '03 Monster 620 Dark last year. She got a great deal, but didn't get a lot of info on previous service work. It's only got about 4,500 miles on it, but I want to take it into someone who knows what to look for in these bikes and give it a once over... maybe jump the gun on the 6000-mile service?... Anyway, doe anyone have any shops/dealerships they can recommend as close to Cape Cod as possible? Thanks.

I just had both my ducatis serviced (Monster and 999). Unfortunetly it was a 3 hour ride into NH. A place called "Clubhouse motorsports" My finally tally for both 6k service's was about $1400.00...I know you said you wanted something close to the cape but spend the gas and take them to this guy (He used to be the lead mechanic at BCM i believe, and a super nice guy that now works for himself). Not only is he a great mechanic but he saved me about 600 dollars. The only place close to me is dunbars in Brockton and they quoted me about $2000.00 for the 6k service on both bikes. The guy (Eric) will even even travel about 100 miles to pick them up and drop them off..You could meet him half way..

That's just my opinion if you want to save some money..The 6k for the Monster was $685.00, (we also had some damage fixed so it ended up being $850).

It's a monster street bike. Any reputable mechanic can service it. Eric is great I'm sure but 6 or 7 hours of travel is a waste. Seacoast is great but again a huge trip. I would stick with dunbar just based on convenience or riverside.

complex stuff it may be worth it but any of the reputable dealers can manage basic service.

Thanks for the help guys. My in-laws are up in Northfield, NH, so a weekend haul wouldn't be the end of the world, but I think Manny is right.... I really just want a general tune up for now. I've changed the oil, serviced the chain, etc, but my experience is limited at best, and I would like a pro to check it out. I hadn't ridden a Monster before, but the suspension has me wondering if it doesn't need some work... I think the bike has also been lowered, and I want to make sure all that was done properly.

If you are worried about the suspension set up I wouldnt have a dealer look at it. I would have Peter at GMD Computrac Boston look at it. From the ferry off MV you are looking at an hour to get to his shop.

The guys at seacoast are ohlins techs (some anyhow) and are MORE than capable of taking a look at a street bikes suspension.

Service on older 2V Ducatis is a little expensive, service on older 4V Ducatis is a lot expensive. Service on current Ducatis is cheaper because the maintenance intervals are much longer than they used to be.

I take off 4 screws, shove a feeler gauge in, and see what the results are.... Real hard to do yourself.

The 6k mile service is in no way any kind of mysterious black magic, and is relatively easy to perform if you have basic mechanical ability.

Myself or other Duc guys I'm sure wouldn't have a problem to show you what to do.

Call Eric at Clubhouse -- he does loads of work for Duc owners here in MA and offers (IIRC) pick up / delivery service when he does multiple bikes.

He's awesome.

Aside from that ... seriously, air-cooled 2v? PM DesmoTull or Quentin and spend ... nothing to do the same service

If you aren't going to tackle the 2V service yourself (I would recommend), then Eric is worth the trip.

Find one of the guys who has done there own work on here and see if they will help/teach you. Ducati folks who work on them themselves are usually a nice bunch and beer and pizza helps!

For newer Ducatis, I see that they have service at 7,500 miles. Are these services necessary or can you wait until the 15,000 mile service? I assume that the answer to this depends on what type of rider you are and if you have pushed the bike in the years you have owned it. Any input would be appreciated.

This is what I need to hear. I would love to be able to do most of the maintenance myself, but having someone watching and assisting me would be fantastic. I would be more than happy to provide as much Harpoon IPA as needed since this is my favorite alcoholic beverage aside from some Henny on the rocks, hahaha.
