I think "shift shaft" sounds funny...
like "we need to get rid of all this shift shaft before it dirties up the place"
aside form that, no i have no idea what could be wrong....
maybe the brake rake is stuck on the peg leg preventing the lug bug from moving the wheel deal...![]()
Easy. Removal is tit because you don't care about the old seal.
Personally I would remove the clutch cover and remove the shift shaft so you don't have that in the way. Clean the splined end of the shift shaft prior to removal.
When you remove the old seal be careful not to mar the area in which the seal is contained in the engine block. Once removed, clean any debris from the area. Upon installation of the new seal, if you don't have a seal driver set you can use an appropriately sized socket to tap the new seal into place. Tap (don't smash) until it feels solid. Make sure the seal is installed evenly and squarely into the engine block. When you reinstall the shift shaft, apply a light coating of oil to it and make sure the return springs are properly seated on their posts before installing the clutch cover. It should click into place without much effort.....unless the clutch basket is in the way. I don't recall offhand.
If you need pics or anything else, I have a library of F4i stuff that I can post.

And then fix whatever is causing it to leak, which is probably a blocked or pinched crankcase breather hose.
Eric... does this mean the 1000RR is making an appearance at the track this weekend???![]()
