Enduro life: Gear choices for street and dirt?

If all goes as planned the DR will be street legal this spring and I'll be taking her on some camping trips. I'm waffling over gear selection for equal parts street and dirt. Dirt will be mostly big trails, nothing gritty and technical (it's a DR). But I'd like to have maximum protection for street use, and good breathability/light weight for trails/dirt.

What kind of gear do you go to for mixed use? Thinking textiles are probably a no-brainer. Got a new Fox V3 helmet coming so I'm already leaning a bit more toward dirt than street.

Most of my gear is from Olympia Motosports. I wear the Airglide jacket and pants 60-80% of the time I'm riding. In particular, their riding pants zip all the way up, much easier to get on than partial zip.

But the Klim gear seems to be a step up, going to stop by Twisted Throttle and check it out once I get rid of my winter coat of fat.

If I am riding anything less than singletrack, I have a stich' on.
The new r3 shells allow you to layer and the zippers allow plenty of air movement if you're making way.
The OG roadcrafters are great too, don't get me wrong.

The klim stuff is fancy. Like Starbucks parking lot fancy.
The stich is dorky. Like chemistry major dorky.

I use my Aerostich Roadcrafter suit for this kind of riding. Works well.
I'm sure almost any product with "Adventure" in its name would be good.

Boots: Sidi Adventure Gore-tex all day. Cost a mint, but so worth it. Wicked comfortable. Actually like no shit waterproof.

Helmet: Damned if I know. If you find a good ADV helmet for reasonable money, let me know. So far my choice would be the Bell MX‑9. But the polycarbonate shell is a turnoff. Would rather find something with those features in a fiberglass/kevlar shell.

Ooh. Those Sidi Adventure Gore-tex are speaking to me. Price tag not so much Love my Sidi race boots, aside from the crappy velcro coming off after one year.

I have an Olympia Airglide jacket I'll probably end up using - usually my cold-weather jacket but without the inserts it has amazing airflow. It's just a bit bulky at times.

I've got this guy coming, pretty good deal on a 2015 model and it's DOT and Snell. No fiberglass or Kevlar, but this MIPS liner sounds cool.

Yeah. I needed a new MX lid though and going to try and make do. Not planning to ride much highway on the DR but.. yeah we'll see. :/ Damn motorbikes, I need a separate house for the swath of gear I'm accumulating!

I gave up on "Adventure" helmets: tried the Shoei Hornet and it was too hot for summer trails for me. Went back to VFX-W.

BIG fan of the ICON Variant for a helmet. I have crashed several times in mine (multiple). Also, the Maine ADV guy (whose name I forget at the moment) was wearing one when he crashed and his bike burned to the ground. He recommends them as well.

I wear all of their Raiden gear as well.

Also, my OG 'Stich Roadcrafter is hot as balls above ~85F. Yeah, it breathes well... if the chest zipper is open down to your stomach. Still major swamp ass.

Weird. As long as I'm moving mine flows a ton of air. Pit zippers open. Rear vent open. Hip/pocket vents open. And zipper down to say the center of the sternum and I'm good to go. Was even fine through Death Valley.

For pants I'm kind of looking at something with built-in armor just for convenience. For now I do have some MX pants, shin guards, knee guards, chest protector, they're just kind of old and shitty and don't fit great. We'll see if I have a dime left after the DR project, sorting the gixxer & hopefully lining up some track time!

also, you're really looking for DUAL-SPORT type gear. Enduro's are gnarly woods races with minor street connector sections.

43 is about 9-9.5, men's US sizing.
Unless you're a chick, my wife is a 9.5 women's and wears a 41.

In casual discussion, an enduro bike is probably best described as 'motocross dirtbike with headlight and other misc changes', while a dual-sport is actually designed for some ratio of 50-50 usage. But you might still find some gear marketed towards the enduro crowd fits your intended use. Despite referring specifically to a race format, it's morphed a bit to describe usage as well. That's where the confusion comes from. Same thing happened with enduro mountainbikes.

There's a longer list of differences. Each is fairly minor, but collectively it results in a different type of vehicle. Maybe same vehicle on opposite ends of the spread.

'nothing gritty and technical' sounds like you want typical touring gear. Something with good optional venting and/or removable liners to account for changes in ambient temperature, which are loosely related to changes in physical activity level. You might find some of the more complex options listed as '4 season'.

I'm gonna piggy back on this thread if it's cool.

Is anyone wearing a full motocross helmet on their dual sport? Is a "dual sport" helmet more appropriate (like an XD4)? I'd like to buy some off road gear to go along with my DR650 this spring time as I see myself riding the DS more than my street bike.

I have both. I usually wear the d/s type lid if it's A: cold and B: I'm alone.
I say alone because I'm the woods I'll flip the shield up and just use my sunglasses (which are scrips, because I'm blind as fuck)
If I wear the regular mx type lid I normally have to put contacts in (which I hate) to wear goggles.

And before anybody else asks, no, there is no reliable way to wear goggles and glasses without fogging.
