I caught a race on Speed TV today, it was an 8 hour endurance race featuring a bunch of bikes you dont often see raced - Geoff May rode an SV1000, there was a BMW R1200, a couple of Kawasaki EX650s, etc.
But I cant find the name of the series, or any info at all for that matter, on the Speed TV web site.
Does anybody know that this series is called? Did anybody else catch it?![]()
Moto ST?

Yeah, thats it - thanks, Doc.
Makes me want a SV1000.
Makes me want to be a better racer. And to get a better racebike.![]()
That is some cool stuff:

It was far from the most exciting race ever, but I found it intersting to watch something other than the "usual suspects" - ie, GSXRs, CBRs, etc. - going at it.Originally posted by Doc

They had one of those Ducati old-bike replicas out there, the new Kawi 650, and handful of SVs, a Hyosung (which didn't make it far), a Ducati monster 750 (though it was wearing 748 fairings?).
Damn! a Hyosung!!
They let anybody in that race! Maybe we should get a team going for the next one.![]()

They said that there was quite a number of privateers. If they'd accept a CCS license (or whatever all of the Loudon racers have), I'd get one and take a trip down there next winter.Originally posted by Doc

That would be an excuse to get an SV1000.![]()
That would be nice.
What happened to the TL?
I think the SV is a better choice.
but either way....V-TWIN BABY!!

Endurance racing is about as interesting to the spectator as NASCAR. A lot is won/lost in the pits. Almost never any on track battles.
Moto-ST has a cool format to be sure. The real excitement in endurance racing is in participating in the event! It's so much fun to be part of a team as rider, mechanic, tire changer, strategist, whatever. If you ever get the chance, don't pass it up.

I did note that the grandstands were completely empty throughout the event.
The interesting part, IMO, was the different bikes, and the strategies - one team on a Kawasaki EX650 ran the same tires through the whole race to avoid the time lost changing tires. I dont think it helped much, though.
It was a total blast. I rode an an MZ1000 with Shane Narbonne and Dave Hudson. Eight hours goes by quick when your riding. I'd like to do a 24 hours race.
Typical SPEED coverage, they only focused on the top guys so I only saw our bike one time. I would have liked to see some coverage because it was the only MZ in the field and the guys who owned the bike really put a great effort into getting it ready for us.
oh man, that's sweet. So where's the write-up, or was that it?Originally posted by mmracer37

Buncha Loudon guys raced, like Mike mentioned.
That was Jay Root on the Paul Smart edition Ducati: http://www.ducati.com/od/ducatinorth...l?eventId=8922

We all did OK. The MZ however had some issues. About a half an hour in the throttle stuck wide open. Apparently, when an air filter gets sucked in to the throttle body it won't let the butterflies close.....who knew??? We lost a few laps trying to get it all back together. We all stayed up for the entire eight hours. I did pretend it was a dirtbike on one lap though...missed downshift going into the chicane. It was all great fun though. We finished 11th in the SST class.Originally posted by Doc

Can anyone race in MOTO-st? Or do you have to be some kind of super special expert fast winner of the classic(![]()
) type of racer? Probably wicked expensive too, huh?

HaHa, I'm not sure on the rules cause it's all new but there were amateurs on one or two of the teams. And, yes the entry fee for the eight hours was 1k. The MotoST license was only 50 bucks though.Originally posted by Stupidhawk007

Shane went first, then Dave, then me. We would each go until the gas light came on then 2 more laps (about 40min). We changed tires after every cycle, so lucky me, I got to run on the clapped out tires every time. The lap times were consistant 2:04's throughout though, I was just sideways alot![]()
During my last session, the gas light never came on so I had to push from Nascar3 to the pits![]()
