So I finally got on my bike and rode it for the first time Friday afternoon in a parking lot in CT. Needless to say I'm hooked. If it weren't for the rain I would have been out more this weekend. I loved it and picked it up rather quickly. My "teacher" was quite impressed. We had originally planned for me to stay in first gear but since I picked it up so fast, he taught me how to shift. I only stalled twice and didn't lay it down (knock on wood!) Next up, a hill, maybe tomorrow. I'm sure I"ll be fine. I've driven a standard for a long time. We forgot the camera Friday but tomorrow we will have it so we can grab some pics of me in action. I take my MSF class this upcoming weekend and I CANNOT WAIT! Here are some pics of my bike (so lovingly called bottle rocket) all put back together again and clean! I have taken two days off for my upcoming birthday in August and I will be spending my whole vacation riding, weather permitting.

congrats on the new wheels![]()
and whats up with this "teacher" thing? Sounds like there's a story there and Jeff wants to know.
Just remember, you have to walk before you can run.
Take things slow, and just keep in mind, you're not as good as you think you are. I learned the hard way after having my bike for only a month and a half.![]()
I know a little about everything, and alot about nothing.
Bike looks nice! Congrats...and have fun riding.![]()

As for the speed aspect, 40 was pushing it on Friday. I"m not even thinking about highways until next year. Speed isn't something I'm about to mess with. Tomorrow I tackle the hill, that is if I'm not as hung over as I was today. Damn church picnics, they pour the vodka down your throat!

Oh, and you will drop it eventually. We all do. It's inevitable. Just don't freak out. Get right back on her and break that fear when it does happen.

Beware the counterfeit Mini!
I know I'm going to drop it, thats why I kept the old fairings on it instead of replacing them. I was just surprised that I didn't drop it on Friday, my first time out. I was prepared and was even told I'll most likely fall. I take my MSF course this weekend so I'll get to learn so much more. I just hope I pass the driving test!!

I wouldn't say "everyone" drops it. I haven't yet. Unless you include it falling while on it's kickstand...ok that counts.
You're not taking the MSF?

You'll pass. Seriously, the people that screw up just don't belong on a bike. You sound like you're getting the hang of it fine. The class is pretty fun too.

Shouldnt have a problem passing. I was talking to Oreo about this a bit yesterday and as good as the class is and I do recommend it to any rider almost everyone passes. Its kind of scarey to think of it sometimes. Some of the people in the class I was in had no idea about that clutch/throttle thing and others had no intention of getting a bike for a few years at least they just wanted the liscense.Originally posted by SVvixen815

Just scarey sometimes to think of who I could meet up with sometimes on the road.
Good luck with the class as long as you can ride you should have no problem at all passing.
It didn't take me long to get the throttle/clutch duo down. Thanks for the info about the test. I've heard different things. I know they give us tons of riding time at the class. I cant wait to be able to ride my bike around.Originally posted by union
