You are lucky you didn't brake controls and such. Bike is all red, you will be able to get that sanded and repainted, no problem.... just wait a little on doing it.

Don't sweat it, bud. I've had my bikes fall over probably 5 or 6 times now. Shit happens.... Forgotten kick-stands, wet pavement, uneven pavement, gravel, you name it.

Someone's gonna have to teach ya how to pick up a bike... do it right & you can pick up an elephant as long as it's got two wheels attached to it

Meg, I can show you how to pick up your bike. I'm back from the race weekend, let me know when you want to get together. I have some free time today.

Rain will only make you a better rider. I'm not saying to go right away in a pouring deluge, but don't be afraid of a little rain, it won't hurt you. I rode hours under pouring rain, thunder and lightning...I found myself still having fun and learning a thing or two.

Yeah, I was thinking of riding in to work today, but was afraid it would start raining on the way in. I didn't want to be soaked at work. If it's raining a bit when I get off I'm going to go out for a ride. Only way to learn is to jump right in an try.

+1 I took my MSF in the pouring, freezing rain. It was 42 degrees and absolutely pouring. I've never been so cold or wet in my life. I Remember my leather gloves bled and I had purple hands for a week.

    Good times

I'd agree. If you get caught in the rain, well it happens. I'd not take off in the rain just to see what it is like and get experience.

Be prepared I guess. Sounds like others have had fun riding in the rain, but every time I have, I've hated it. I avoid rain like it's the plague. Hydro-planing a bike (twice) is NOT fun. When traveling a straight line and the whole bike moves about 6 inches to the right, you start to wonder how long before you take a detailed pavement sample while road testing your gear.

cleaning the bike after the rain sucks. having stuff not work anymore because water shorted a wire in a harness sucks. having your bike throw fuel injection codes also sucks.

sorry to say but rain sucks and if you read the owners manual it will say where not to spray water durring cleaning...well that can't be helped in the rain. bikes sure aren't water proof.

My Kawi is a trooper in the rain...so was my 6R...no issues yet...course, tomorrow when I go to start it, it probly won't start.

Sooner or later you'll get caught in some water, whether at your very first Track Day (like me at Tony's this past April) or just going home from the store...it generally sucks...just be smooth with your throttle and brakes, don't get scared, and if you have to, pull over and wait it out.
Of course, I'm kinda crazy, so after its been raining for about 10 min, I start to push it a little...just a weee bit!

Also, like driving a car in the snow, ride a gear up if you can, and you'll have better traction. Don't think that because you slowed down you need to be in 1st or 2nd, but instead slow down and go in 2nd or 3rd.

    Re: I finally did it....

As another newbie (just over 2 months and 4.5k of riding in), I'd suggest riding in the rain when you have the choice, so you can ride in the rain when don't have a choice. My first time riding in the rain was in a thunderstorm just after dusk, covering perhaps 30-35 minutes of riding towards the end of a 2-hour trip. Being on a Vermont state highway, there were no overpasses to hide under; being after 8 p.m. on a Saturday, there were no open businesses at which to take shelter (well, except the ones less than a mile from home). Yeah, that was a bit exciting, and I got friggin' soaked.

Wednesday afternoon, on the other hand, I chose to ride in the rain; I was almost fully geared up for it (aside from good wet-weather gloves), and it wasn't bad at all. Not having lightning or the dark to worry about was nice, of course.

So I'd suggest that, as soon as you're at least somewhat comfortable doing so, be willing to ride in the rain. It's not that bad as long as you have appropriate rain gear, and it's easier to deal with if the first time is by choice, not by failure to get home soon enough. I'd not recommend doing it after dark, though...the visibility issues get rather large.

Good luck, and enjoy your Ninjette.

Yeah, I chose to ride the other day when it was sort of raining here for the same reason.

One question though, how do you folks deal with rain drops on the face shield?

Turn your head to either side, at speed, and the wind will clear the water off of your shield.

does anyone know if rain-x would help at all? The stuff works awesome on the truck windows during a rain storm, but would it damage the plastic/tint of a helmet visor (I have a dark smoke visor). I think I might give it a try on one of my old HJC helmets and see how it works.

    Start a new thread.

The question is kinda lost in here. And no one else will benefit from the answer...

Yes, rainX would help a decent amount. I have used rainX on plastic before. It wouldn't damage the tint.

Sorry to hear you dropped your new bike. I had to help someone pick theres up once. Grab both bars, hold the brake, stick your ass against the tank, and squat the bike up. It works.
