I wish I'd known you were interested in getting a Monster. I ended up trading it in because the dealer offered me more than most 04 S4Rs have been selling for on ducatimonsterforum.org. I also had to act quickly because there were only 3 f800s at the dealer and supposedly none left in the warehouse. The other local dealer had none left and weren't expecting the 2010 model for a few months.

Nice bike. I hear they get amazing fuel economy and are terrific bikes. I agree - the $4k jump is quite substantial and both bikes are great. Heck- I'm cheap and could not get past a $7k bike. That being said, overall very happy with my FZ6 both handling, motor (now that I am learning to rev it more) and ergos.
very nice bike, I was looking at a yellow one before I picked up the KTM, start racking up the miles.
Just curious, did you try the Hyper for seating position and not like it? I know you had mentioned looking at it when you asked me about the range I was getting per tank.
I checked them out but they too were a bit out of my range. I had it narrowed to the F800GS, Tiger 1050 and if I could have found a good used one, a Multistrada 1100.
I also tried a Moto Guzzi Stelvio and an Aprilia Shiver. The Stelvio looked nice, but the bar vibration was unbearable and the engine felt a bit lacking. The Shiver pulls like my S4R and sounds amazing, but I didn't care for the throttle response and it felt small compared to the other bikes on my list.
Congrats!
If you can't Race it or take it to bed, it's not worth having..
Nice purchase, BMW rocks!
Where did you pick it up? Second Wind?
now that you have a Beemer you have to ride in all weather...year round.

Congrats! Thats a nice ride. Maybe within the next few years this is the route I will have to go! I am back to an RC51 but have yet to have ride it. I already know my back hates me for buying another one!

Thanks Mike
You're crazy for getting another RC. I'll never ride a true sport bike again. In my opinion, they aren't well suited for touring (at least not with me riding it).
Are you back in the States Mike? I haven't ridden with you in a while. I think we're about due for another adventure.
Congrats on the purchasethat bike shouldn't disappoint in whatever you're going to do with it (unless your goal is trackdays only
). What are you doing for panniers, or are you planning on doing any travelling with it?
Only asking as I recently got Micatech's for my R1200GS and they are awesome. While there they showed me the new stuff coming out for the F800's and it actually looked really decent and was comparably priced (but way better quality than) the OEM stuff.
Did you test ride the Tiger 1050? I recently rode one and thought it has become quite the taller/ more upright version of the speed triple. Thing moved out well and could get past 100 way faster than a GS, but I wouldn't want to be on one for more than an hour.
No plans for panniers yet, though I'm sure I'll eventually pick up a set. I'll be sure to check out the Micatech panniers.
I did test ride the 1050. I didn't like it at first because it seemed too plain. However, thinking back I realized that it fit my needs perfectly because it's more of a street bike than the 800 GS. I was seriously considering the Tiger, but I didn't go with the because insurance would have been much more than the BMW and because the local dealer insisted on charging their destination/setup BS fees which amounted to $1,000 more than the 800GS, and that was without heated grips on the Tiger.
youre gonna need onna them there fancy flip up helmets

To be heavy, noisy, annoying in rain, and cost more than a solid-shell version of the same. Yeah I'm a big fan![]()
I hear ya on the Tiger...for a full on streetride it would probably get the win...but I gotta say, you will definitely come to appreciate the F800 if you do get some dirty experience on it. Your first trip to Vt. on the fireroads or access roads and you'll never think of the tiger again. (New tiger just not what old Tiger was for that).
The F800 may not be able to hang with a new CRF or YZF, but I would imagine it's alot more flexible in the woods than the larger GS (which I have taken offroad, 2-up, with fully loaded luggage, and is always quite interesting).
You may one day send a thank you letter to your insurance company![]()
Any street riding impression updates???![]()
