I drive an 05 modded sti here, as well as an 03 rc51.
I love them both, but neither is gonna make the trip with me.
For work, i am going to Brighton, England for 12 months.
A friend of mine is into motards and is always talking about converting his yami, and it has rubbed off on me.
I am gonna need some transportation when i'm over there, and im thinking it will be one of these, for fun, and manuverability in the city.
I don't know jack shit about them, what do I need to know?
Also, I am 6'5" 245, so i need a large bike. The RC rider position fits me very well.
Thanks!![]()
Motards are an upright position so your size shouldn't make much of a difference. You'll likely have to look into it elsewhere to find out what is available street ready and legal over there, and you'll probably want to buy it there as well. You've got a lot of research to do as far as registration there, tax and registration coming back in with it, etc. Also want to be carefull, most standard motards will require a lot of maintnance and adjustment if you're using it as a daily driver.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Im fine with maintinance and adjustments. I built my car myself, and it requires PLENTY of maintinence
I dont plan on bringing it back, it would cost a lot. I want to buy one, use it for a year, and sell it.
But what does it need for maintinance?
Is it not a good daily driver? I wont have a car over there.
maybe just a regular bike?
get a damn good rain suit
it rains every fucking day over there

i'm from Maine, I'm tough.
It depends on what you get really. You'll be checking and adjusting the valves very often on most, but if you're good mechanically that'll be tit as long as you stay on top of it.
You'll also be limited to pretty much a backpack as far as the amount of stuff you'll be able to transport anywhere.
What other kinda motard related questions did you have in your head?

Bah, our weather isnt that bad
Have fun over there!
that often! wow.
I was hoping factory tards had longer intervals...

every 15 hours?!?!?!?!?!?!

Maybe it isn't such a good idea...
maybe a 2-stroke?
are motards even popular over there?
FYI, Brighton is the P-Town of England.

COOL, THANKS FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL TIPS.
motard i think are more popular over there than here..as far as street versions go anyway. you may be able to pick up a KTM Duke (or duke2 or 3 or whatever # they are on now) over more easily than here. also consider getting one that is made for daily duty...yammy make a YZ250X or some shit and Kawi makes a similar bike as well. worst case you can pick up a SV over there and get around with 0 maint and it will fit in an apt...i know it will![]()
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

No one mentioned the laws for riding bikes over there yet? I'm not completely sure of them, but you might be restricted to a really small engine at first. I don't know how they honor licenses from the USA or else where.
Definitely look into that before saying "I'm going to england and getting a mr nitrous turbo charged busa" and so on. Suck to get your hopes up for something then get there and find out all they'll let you ride on their streets is 125cc max![]()
My Condolences.....
(I lived in Surrey for 5 years-the only reason I would ride in the UK is if I had to pay for petrol... and I took a bike over with me .....rode it once!
BTW Today is a PERFECT English day!
-sorry not being too helpful and raining on your parade:-)

why is the riding so bad?
And the US drivers license is good for one year over there
I assume the bike goes the same
