Apologies if this is a repost. I did a quick search and didn't see another thread on it.
Check this out?
The City of Liverpool in England has come up with a novel solution, and is testing a couple of specially equipped firefighting motorcycles. The bikes can be deployed when a full response from a fleet of full-sized engines isn't required, such as small car fires or so-called 'anti-social' fires.
The bikes will carry both a tank of water, and a supply of fire extinguishing foam, and the riders will wear special suits that are designed to work for both riding and firefighting.

I'd so volunteer to test something like this.

I thought BMW's were heavy enough without strapping on a tank of water.

I'm a paramedic and I've been trying to get someone to try out an EMS motorcycle.... No one is going for it.
Maybe for trash barrels or small outside fires, but 9 times out of 10 car fires are more than they appear to be. No way in hell you'd catch me near a car fire in whatever type of protective suit that guy was wearing. It certainly doesn't look like the NFPA turnout gear we have in the states.
More than they appear to be? You've gotta elaborate on this.

What I mean is that sometimes you just have your standard car fire. Weather it starts under the hood or some electrical in the cabin catches the interior on fire, you put it out with water and your done.
But with vehicles being made with so many recycled products for the interior, different fuel sources for the engine, it creates more of a danger to safely get close and put the fire out.
Just seems a little dangerous to have one guy respond for a car fire, thats all I'm saying. I realize I'm being far too anal about this.

I don't think you are being to cautious and I agree with you completely. What is this guy going to do when he gets injured? Wait until someone else comes along to help him?
The first rule of fighting a fire is make sure you have back up.
Maybe they deploy two bikes per fire?

Saw these bikes when I was in Paris last November at the Milipol show (they show military and police applications of all sorts of various things). The manufacturer was there and the bikes were pretty cool. They had a 1200 based model like the one in the picture for road use and an F800GS model for use in getting to forest fire areas quickly.
If I remember correctly the tanks actually have the type of foam used for fighting aircraft fires in them. These are mainly intended for use in heavily traffic'd areas where a normal fire fighting vehicle cannot get through to the fire and the small size of the bike makes it possible. The traffic in and around Paris was ridiculous and from what the rep for the company tells me there are many cities in Europe that are just like Paris traffic wise.
The rep was actually from southern NH and has the same name as I do, kind of odd to travel to Europe and find someone with your same name (Joel isn't exactly a common name) from the same area you are in the states, that works for a german company at a show you had to go to for work.
Oh well, they may not be the best tool for the task but they seem to have a niche market where they may be able to do some good, kinda like the goldwing tow truck they have in England.

This is what it takes to get Joel out from behind the woodwork?
What ever it takes.. Hi Joel!
I like this Firefighting Motorcycle idea, and I also agree it should be a two bike/two person responce team.
