Anyone ever do a frame swap?

Ever since the loss of my bike

    http://www.nestreetriders.com/forum/...er-boston.html

I've been looking at some dirt cheap bikes that need repair for a winter project.

Has anyone ever done a frame swap on a bike? How is it?

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

I didn't read through the thread you posted. Depends on the bike. F4i needs a tool to take the lock but off the rear frame bolt. You can make one with a cheap socket and a dremmel.

Yeah, not particularly difficult but will take ya a while first time around. Setup the bike in a place where you know you can leave it for a long while. For the ones I've done, I've left the motor blocked and lift the frame off the motor. Can help to either have a buddy or a engine lift, depending on how tricky it is to lift off.

Highly recommend getting your hands on a factory service manual. Other than that, if you are good w/ a wrench its not a huge deal.

Usually only small # (2-4) of specialized nuts depending on the bike. The steering stem requires a adj. pin spanner or toothed socket, and usually the swingarm and maybe a motor mount or two will also require a toothed socket. All of which you can make w/ a dremmel like hessogood said. Here's an example: http://www.komotodraggin.com/engine_hayabusa.htm

Tag the routing for the wires/cables and label plug pairs. Label the bolt locations. Kinda common sense stuff.

Plan on doing other maintenance while pulling frame: check plugs, valve clearance, etc... Very easy w/ motor out.

Its not that bad...marking your wiring is the most important (in my opinion)
I also had plastic cups marked with the contents, nuts and bolts to specific sections of the bike would have their own cup.
Once you are actually removing the engine its always easier to have an extra set of hands...you can use a floor jack though like I did.
..And be sure you have plenty of beer, you can run out pretty quick if this is your first time.
