how much on top end? also in terms of top end torque or speed?Originally posted by bigred875
-1 +2 would prolly do the trick...it'll make it very snappy...but you will lose top end.....

Not much loss on top end.. generally it should make the bike much better for the street, at least for "sport" riding.
+ better acceleration, probably everywhere
- little bit of loss of top end
- buzzier on the highway
- use more gas at the same speed
- speedo will be off unless you get some kind of unit to calibrate it
I think there's about 3, maybe 4 hp difference in the 03-05 models, you'd get the same kind of performance gains by putting a full system and a gearing change on the 03 as you would on the 05Originally posted by chr|s sedition
ok, my new idea which i'm starting to like more and more...
i'd like a bit more kick than my old R6, but don't wanna give up the handling for a litre...so my new idead:

I used to commute with my old R6, which just happens to be Sidewinders R6 for sale, and the last thing i would do to a R6 is change the gearing. The thing was around 7500rpm at 75-80 mph as it was, the rpm will increase quite a bit just changing a couple teath on the rear.

Probably around 5k miles, think it had just over 4k when i got rid of it. I'm pretty stupid when it comes to oil changes and like to waist money with that shit, i know i changed it and the filter 4 times while i had it.
I bought the Micron high pipe, factory yamaha seat cowl, and i made my own rear fender, it was clean and simple.
It's a nice bike and it has been very well cared for by both owners, valuable info that's hard to find in a used bike![]()

Sadly, i can't even find any good pictures of itBut it has been to Daytona bike week

was just on R6-Fourm and found this:
Yamaha is replacing all four coils if one or more appear bad.
Technical Service Bulletin# M2003-019
something about the 2003 have coil issues. a number of people posted about problems they had their bikes. any idea what the status sidewiders 2003 is in regards to this issue? people also mentioned problems they had *after* coils were replaced. reading that whole thread was really making reconsider *any* 2003 R6.

Some coils test OK on the bench, but then fail when up to operating temp. That's why they just replace all of them at once.

I'd have to check with the dealer to see if it was done to that bike or not. I did bring a R6 back for a coil recall but i can't remember if it was the 03 or the 01 that i had![]()

Check out columbia motorsports in CT. You can get really good deals on yamaha's. When my brother was buying his 600 they had the 04 r6 listed as 7,500 OTD and delivered. And I am pretty sure that's what my brother paid for his bike.
That R6 came from Columbia Motorsports, great dealership and most of the service department races quadsIf my local Yam dealer doesn't have what i want, Columbia is my second stop..
There's no recall for the 03 R6 coils, there is a service bulletin on it though, if they fail they will get replaced at no costMy 99 R6 was the bike i had a coil problem on and there was a recall for a sidestand switch
Nothing has been done to the coils on my old bike while i owned, it never gave me any hints of any kind of trouble

..lest we forget the unknowns of the 2005 model year and yet-to-be-had recalls...
Also from the friend that referred us to Columbia motorsports, he stated that the 05 suzuki gsx-r1000 is listed under 10K OTD.
I don't know how true the figure he gave us was, but if it's true then he is going to sell out of them quickly.
after looking at my budget and other assorted bills this weekend, it looks like i'm gonna end up with R7's / Sidewinders R6. The 'fun' factor tells me to get an 05 R6 or a used R1...but logic is saying go for the 03 R6 cuase it's an absurdly good deal. Now if i could just get the wingnut on the phone so i can go check the bike out...heh
