does anyone know of a new fuel formulation, has anybody elso noticed any changes?
I'm not complaining, my last 3 tanks of gas have been a 10-15% improvement in fuel economy, I am not riding any different
coincidently all 3 tanks were at Citgo stations, normaly, I use Shell, in all cases 87octane for my 07 V-strom 1000, last tuneup service was about 3000 miles ago that included TPS & TBS, I just hit 25,000 this weekend and have ranged from 39.5mpg to 42mpg until now, 3 tanks in a row, 46.6, 47.4 & 47.6
anybody else experiencing fuel economy improvements ?

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
I have noticed an improvement in my truck. I was getting 21 mpg coming home from CT the other day. I was pretty much shocked.
Citgo adds 10% ethanol.
I've been told it should decrease mileage...I also heard it likes to eat rubber seals, probably not as worrysome on a newer vehicle, but older ones it might not be a wise idea to hit a Citgo for gas.
I've noticed no difference between citgo mobil shell etc.
citgo and mobil can suck it when on the bike though, 9 times out of 10 neither has 93 octane anymore. shell here I come.
The mix ratio should be on the pump.

I know diesel has been changed because of the law. I didn't know of any other grades effected.
From Citgo.
A: The percentage of ethanol (if any) may vary at individual locations. An ethanol gasoline can contain up to 10 percent ethanol. If you purchase ethanol gasoline where there is an ethanol posting, the location or marketer supplying the location should be able to tell you the exact percentage.

Another variable to look at is the temperatures. If it's colder when you fill up the tank - you get a little more fuel. If it's warmer when you're riding - you use a little less gas.

For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction - and sometimes a scar...
Ethanol has much less energy than gasoline, it should decrease fuel mileage slightly.
Haven't heard of any major formulations since they started adding ethanol, and that was sometime last year.

Fuck Citgo. Hugo Chavez owns it, he hates the U.S., yet loves to make money from us.
'winter' vs 'summer' gas, happens every year in Maine. I was getting 25mpg, now I'm getting 28mpg. When winter rolls around, it'll drop when they go back to the crap mix. (It's also part of the higher gas costs, every state has their own 'mixes' they mandate, and some like Maine go further and enforce seasonal mixes. Refineries have to produce smaller batches to satisfy certain states per run, making the process less efficient...)
I know all this, but it still doesn't explain the increase in economy, winter gas is more potent than summer gas, the gas suppliers didn't switch in the middle of the summer, all 3 tankfulls increase have been in the past few days
the 3 citgo stations were scattered between Vermont & NH, one was a CNBrown location (my local gas station) another was the citgo on RT 100 just south of Irasville and the other citgo was at the supermarket on West Shore road on newfound lake

I have noticed more MPG in the car in the past couple tanks, and the bike seems to go up with every tank, but i have attributed that to break in.
Do you ask questions just so you can tell everyone their answers are wrong?
Yeah but I have had my truck for 3 years including summers and I have never gotten this good of gas mileage. I dont know what it is but I am not complaining.
Just a random thought but I wonder how e85 prices have changed recently. I looked into converting to e85 in the Buick but there just is not convenient enough as there are very few stations in the state that carry it.

I can't imagine summer/winter gas accounting for the difference in milage I am seeing, they have been using different formulations winter & summer for as long as I can remember and I've been driving legally for 40 years now, I never ever remember seeing barely more than a noticable difference in economy or performance
I'm seeing over the past 7days/4 tanks of fuel over about 800 miles a 10%+ increase in fuel economy on a bike that has never varied more than 2%-3% since new, 25k on bike now.
the only difference in the past 800 miles is that I have installed an Autocom, but what could that have to do with milage![]()

I'm beginning to think that my riding style has changed, even If I got a batch of 100% gasoline and 0% ethanol, (0% is less than 10%, correct) and ehtanol was just filler with no energy whatsoever, that wouldn't account for the 10%+ increases I have seen
hot 100% sure of my numbers, but I think ethanol has about 75%-80% of the energy of gasoline, so ethanol even at a full 10% formuation would only account for a 2½% change in energy can a 2½% change in energy convert to larger changes in engine efficiency, with a carbed vehicle, probably likely, FI, it would depend on what adjustments it can make
