That sucks. If it's for the street, I'd throw a plug in it and keep riding til the tire's done.
I'd save it with a plug, but take it to a good tire shop who can put a vulcanized patch on the inside as well.

Plug it and run it. Period. A properly installed plug will out last the life of the tire. I've run a whole track day season on a plugged tire.

Can you guys recommend a place that can do it right? I'd really rather not drop $2-- on a new tire especially after spending a bunch of money in new leathers. And I definitely don't want to run it after having sum schmo plug it.

Is there a roofer on your street?
The calculus of hate
It is not that I should win it is that you should lose
It is not that I succeed it is that you fail
It is not that I should live it is that you should die
I also had good luck with one of those fiber & rubber compound-impregnated cord type plugs. Installed on a fairly new tire (less than 400 miles on it) and ran it unto the tire was toast at 8800 miles.
The patch on the inside is insurance. Every installation of those plugs is different. Most work, some don't. If the plug works loose it can get a slow leak, or deflate in seconds. I had the slow leak experience with a car tire recently, and the plug that leaked was installed by a tire shop not me. Given the option, I prefer to get the assurance of have a heat-sealed patch on the inside as the fail-safe to the plug.

This is the kit I carry with me. Only used it once buy it worked great.http://www.stopngo.com/pocket-tire-p...co2-inflation/
I think I'm going to just buy a new tire. I don't think I could shake the thought of a plug flying out at the track or even during fast street riding...

200 is cheap money for your peace of mind....
With a nice clean puncture like that and the likelihood that you didn't drive it flat and damage the tire, this combination patch/plug is as close to perfect as you can get- I've used them for years and never seen a leak

I agree that 200 is cheap money for peace of mind AND I have plugged tires and had no problems. That is up to you.
I would NOT advise bringing it to a shop for a couple of reasons. First of all, do you really believe the guy plugging the tire in the shop is some kind of a tire scientist? You will take more time and show more care than they ever can for the price they will charge you. Plugging is a DIY repair all the way. Also, they would rather sell you a tire, so they will try to educate you on the dangers of plugging.
If the puncture is clean, I would plug it and just be mindful of it. If you truly believe your street riding and track day paces put the tire under such a severe load that a plugged tire becomes dangerous, then by all means replace it.
P.s. if you really do not want to do it yourself, call Degsy or one of the other members who change tires. They do care, will tell you the truth and will teach you something along the way.

Plug it.
I can do it for you but it is an easy DIY repair. I have ridden track and street many miles on plugged tires (standard plug) and never had an issue. Just my opinion.
Just plug it, the plug will out last the tire.

Dave saved my bacon plugging my tire for me, it was holding fine but I did glue a circle patch on the inside as well over the plug for piece of mind.
Screw it, I'll plug it. It wont be on the track till spring anyways so if it looks like its holding air after some spirited street riding I'm sure it will be fine.

I don't know about any other shops, but Town Fair Tire has the equipment and materials to put a valcanized patch on the inside. Whether their help is all qualified to do a proper job...don't know about that.![]()

You'll be fine!!!

Yup, you'll be fine. I currently have a plug in my rear tire and it holds air better than the front that's 'natural'. Just a standard plug I did myself in my garage...
