    GSXR conversion ???'s

So someone has offered to trade me a 00' GSXR-600 converted to a 750, has anyone here done the conversion before?
I just want to make myself familiar w/the swap.

What is needed to do the conversion properly and parts are different? I assuming the frontend is different between the 600 and 750? What else, ECU?

They were much more similar in other years - this was kind of "different" than the later suzuki trends, where the 600 & 750 make generation changes ("bi-yearly") at the same time and share 90% of parts (or more - pulled that number from my ass), and the liter bike changes on opposite model years.

I wouldn't be opposed to the bike if I were you regardless of how far he took the conversion... I think motor/front end is easy... but if he did body conversion, and didn't source all the required differing mounts, it will never look right.

    Re: GSXR conversion ???'s

A 2000 GSXR 600 was the old SRAD body style. That means there is a good chance that the 750 motor is a '99 motor since in 2000 the 750's went to the new gen body style. If he did that then I am pretty sure that the '99 750 motor slips right into the '00 600 frame. If he used an actual '00 750 new gen motor I am unsure of the process involved in getting it properly fitted to a '00 600 old SRAD frame.

    A couple diffs between '96-99 750's and '97-'00 600's

    - In '98 750's went to FI while 600's remained carb'd (This may also mean that he could have possibly fitted the '00 600 with an even older 750, ('96 -'97)motor so as to not have to bring over the FI bits and pieces.)
    - The 750's have a braced swingarm while the 600's don't
    - The 750's have 6 piston front calipers while the 600's have 4.
    - The 750's have upside down front forks while 600's have conventional.
    - The 750's have a 6' rear wheel and come stock with 190 tire, 600's have 5.5 and come stock with 180 tire.

I would find out more about what he means by 600 to 750 conversion. It could be as simple as him dropping in a '96 750 motor( and various motor related components like the ECU) and calling it a day, or he could have done a real complete overhaul.

I believe most of this to be pretty accurate, I am by no means an expert but I owned a '98 750 for 5 years and loved every second on it, what a great bike!

Hope this info was helpful in your decision.

I think the motor mounts (if not the entire frame) are the same (00 750 fits 00 600)

Also, I am fairly sure the rear is 5.5" on the 750's.

    Re: GSXR conversion ???'s

Motor mounts on an '00 750 frame may be the same as '00 600 frame that I am unsure of, but they are definately different frames. The '00 600 frame has a hole in it(on the throttle side) to allow the coolant tube to pass through, hense the little bubble on the fairing where the hose comes through, while the '00 750 (new gen) frame does not.

Sorry, I should have clarified what bike had a 6" rear wheel. The '96-'99 750 has a 6" rear rim, in '00 they went back to a 5.5" rear rim on the 750. The '00 600 has a 5.5" rear wheel.

got ya - thank kawasaki for everyone going to the "fatty" wheels in the late 90's... I think they started the trend.

lol, its funny you say that. I knew a couple of kids that used to stuff 200's on their GSXR 6" wheels.
