I am thinking of heading to Albany, NY to check out the Harbor Freight there. (It is the closest to me). Anyone from my neck of the woods wanna go? I have a truck to haul things home in!

my dad goes to the one near his house all the time. I refuse to go w/ him anymore, if i have to get something quick and he comes with. im stuck there for 45mins-hour minimum....my mom says its the "Xmas tree shop for dudes"
The stuff is great for stuff you don't care about. Ie: I work on big dirty commercial fishing boats. If I drop a pair of cheap azz channel locks or dykes in the drink, I don't feel so bad. Or for stuff you don't use every day: Jack stands and lifts.
Jack stands are okay. Hydralic lifts are not good. El cheapo unrebuildadle pumps.

i like HF stuff as I don't use it every day. the hand tools have a lifetime warranty too, so as long as there is one close, who cares if it breaks.
You get what you pay for.
these types of sayings were made for places like this.
I've had good and bad experiences with there items...To bad the good won't out weight the bad.
There is one 15 minutes from my house.
10-4!
Just hit that one a few days back... frequently find myself at the So. Attleboro store too, my bro' lives in Rumford.
Has for me... got burned in the past ordering from their catalog before the stores where around.
BUT I also have stuff ordered from HF in the '90's that still works fine.
If you can see and handle it you get a lot better idea if the thing will hold up halfway decent.

Doc, are you high? You're going to drive all the way to Albany for some cheap junky tools?
Just wait for the Champlain Valley Fair to come to town -- they sell the same shit in the tool trailers there.
Personally? I don't use their crap unless I know I'm only going to use it once.
Nothing worse than cheap tools.
I went to HF today when i had a lot of time to kill... I gotta say, though everyone wants to shit on them... They have some decent things. But like everything you gotta look at it prior to buying. Some stuff is chincy as hell. But for example i found a pnumatic break bleader for $30. Makes me really think about some SS break lines now... A nice moto stand (roll the front wheel in) $80. I spent a good 30 mins just walking around.

I got a good HF rear stand for $40, it's great, works perfectly for my swingarm Triumph.
And don't believe everything you think.
This is the one i saw today. I didnt see a swingarm stand though. And i must say, i walked around for a long long time and not one person asked if they could help me... Kinda lame.

If you think Harbor Freight is a great store ... wait till you go into a Northern Tool store.
My wife forbids me to walk into that store under threat of divorce!
I still sneak in and really, really, really try to control myself!
Main difference ... HF is imported crap .... NT has a lot of quality imported and US made goods. Prices are a bit higher than HF but the quality more than makes for it.
If loud pipes save lives, imagine what learning to ride would do.
I see that the Baxley has a clamping mechanism... but what makes it so much more superior... and justify almost $200 higher price tag?
currently - i'll have to check it out... Though the closest one is in MA... And i understand HF isnt the best. But for some of the stuff i need/want it's pretty good.
Pnumatic brake bleeder - 20$
Watch press - $12
Swiveling vice - various sizes and prices
I even looked at a tire changer and bead breaker lol...

well I haven't seen the HF deal in person but it looks like a cheap Condor rip off. and the Condor isn't as good as the Baxley. I've heard of bikes falling over in a Condor and they aren't as easy to get into. The times I've seen people with them they usually end up pushing the chock forward anywhere from a few inches to not even getting into it and pushing it over a foot. The Baxley might move a couple inches but that's it.
The one problem I've had with my Baxley might be a problem for any of them. When I get off the track after a session with hot tires the bike can be hard to pull out when the next session comes around because the tire has stuck to the chock.

I got talked into the Condor over the Baxley by a stocking dealer. I tried holding it in place with shims, didn't work. It is now bolted to the floor. It is beautifully made. In fact, the machined edges of the aluminum chassis are so sharp I sliced my thumb while putting it together.
And don't believe everything you think.
would anyone suggest the hf front and rear wheel stands? really need to change my tires and its cheaper to just bring in the rims.
And you're lucky if it works the first time...
