$800, $900, $1k + helmets? What?
I know there are $1-0-,$200 helmets out there too, but jesus, a low end Shoei is like $500
Paid 575 for a Shoei RF-14 Faust last year .

Ive been looking as well. Insane prices. Even in my usual $600 price range I'm not finding much I like. A grand is the new mid range I guess.
I have been looking for closeout deals, which there are some. I'm mainly after a Shark helmet. My shoei is only 2 years old and it's falling apart so I won't be buying another which breaks my life long Shoei brand loyalty. Sharks have been my back up for about 10 years now so now they will be my primary. Tough to find though.
I had a Shoei RF-1000 that lasted me like 10 years, but eventually the inside disintegrated.
That's reasonable. I generally get a new helmet every 5 years and keep a few old ones around for guests. My new Shoei really should have been tossed after a year. The only reason that it's still around is I use my back up Shark a lot more to keep the wear off the Shoei. It's getting binned as soon as I get a replacement.
How are scorpion helmets? They seem more in the $4-500 range
I find some good deals at these 2 euro shops, normally only looking at Arai, so not sure on other brands...

I get solid color Arai's and the pricing is never anywhere near that steep. But I shop sales and already have been professionally fitted, so I know which ones fit me right.

last time I ordered in the fall, jacket, pants & 2 pair gloves, was around $25 shipping, all items where in stock when ordered, was here in like 8 days. I've never returned anything, that COULD be an issue... I think I got free shipping on the last helmet, but I had a coupon code...and there is a pop-up for 10% off 1st purchase.
I’ve bought from both and they’re legit. Sometimes good deals and colors you can’t get in the states. Although, they are apparently not allowed to ship Shoei to the US, I bought one once and they refunded me and said Shoei is really serious about that stuff. Chromeburner is another solid Euro option. Shipping costs for all three are not bad, especially since the VAT gets deducted from the price for US orders.

Those German sources look good, but I'd be wary of buying helmets from just any place online. Have read that counterfeit Arai and Shoei helmets are pretty commonplace.

The flip side of all this is, I bought a Bell Star closeout for $425 to replace one with a 2018 build date. The new one I received has a 2019 build date. D'oh.
What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.
FYI, helmets sold in Europe are not required to have the date of manufacture marked on them. So if you’re planning on using it for track, you won’t be able to prove its age.
I bought my Nexx helmet from Chuck (Snowman) and it doesn’t have it; I remember him posting that he discovered that bit of information after contacting the European reseller after he received it and couldn’t find a date. That was probably 4-5 years ago, maybe that has changed.
12 years ago I was looking at an arai that was 800ish and a shoei that was 600ish... Or that's what I remember.
