I am getting new tires mounted tomorrow, I have the rear im off the bike, no problem I have done that before.
I can't figure out for the life of me how to get the front rim off (2000 zx7R)
There are 2 hex bolts on the fron of the fork near the bottom on each side, took them out. Then it seems as though I need a huge ass hex head to unscrew the axle?????????
there isn't one that big in the tool kit that cam with the bike.
?????????????????????????????????????????????
I feel retarded![]()

you do need a "huge ass hex head" and it's not in the tool kit. if it's the same as the zx9 i have one if you want to borrow it.
as i recall it's torqued to 90ftlb's

Sean take a Sparkplug socket take out the rubber in let inside of it get a socket extender put the sparkplug socket on the extender backwards and the other side of the sparkplug is the same shape as your hex front axle that or just get some vice grips grab the sparkplug socket and turn.... Hope this helps
Thats always the way! Where did you get your big ass hex wrench? Would sears have it???
I live 3miles from a sears so borrowing it would be much more of a drive

you could try sears.
iv'e got a set of big hex head's that fit into an adapter so i can put them on a 1/2" breaker bar. which i needed to remove the front wheel on the zx9. it was tight!
btw: i'm in bridgewater.

Doug, you are my fuckin hero
worked like a charm, put the spark plug socket on an extender, then on a long handled torque wrench, came right off.
It took me a minute to figure out that I had to take the brakes off to , but its off.
I just saved $65 an hour to have a mech. do it.
Not to mention, they wanted $500 to moount a set of D207rr's. I got them delivered to the house for $275, plus $30 for a guy to mount and ballance . I just saved $195

Next round of tires, I'm either going to do the whole thing by myself (ok, maybe an extra pair of hands are needed) in the garage, or I'm going to call that azmotorcycletires guy to come to my house and do it.
This last set, BT010s, I had to borrow a front stand and the whacky tools involved with removing a wheel from a single sided swingarm. Take the wheels and tires up to Tewksbury where a trio of Daytona owners swapped my tires. Bring the wheels/tires home and mount 'em up. Now return the front stand and the whacky tools. A lot of work to save $80, but now I have the knowledge to do it myself.
Teach a man how to fish... and suddenly he's got a boring hobby.

If you bring me wheels with the old tires on, and the new tires, I can mount them at the place I do the web site for (extremecycles in Middleborough) for $40 a set, and I balance them perfectly with a static balancer.

Well. The only thing I really need to buy was the front stand which I have now , I had all the tools I needed, i just didn't know it yet. But doing it myself, I am saving $195 each time. And now we have 2 bikes in the garage to play with.
thanks again for the tips. My next question is how hard is it to put in front brake pads?

Sean, brake pads are very, VERY easy to replace.

You saved $195 by doing it yourself!!
In my book that means you go out and spend the $195 on accesories or more tools.
Having the right tools always makes the job go smoother and quicker.

Fishing is like baseball...
Extreme boredom punctuated by a moment of great excitement.
Motorcycling is more of an instant gratification thing. I think we are all pretty impatient.
If I had a LOT of free time I would enjoy fishing. When I was a kid and had the time I used to walk over to our local pond. Lots of fun. (Every kid should have a nearby pond, fishing, hockey and all the typical schoolyard mischief in one place!) Of course I will never turn down the chance to go deep sea fishing. Now that is exciting!

Stop fuckin' raggin' on baseball, you little twerp!!!![]()
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Baseball Sucks!
Heh. Just kidding. I went to a Red Sox game this week. It was fun...
Ben
that's the spirit, ben... just keeeeeeeeep on digging.

Fishing is a great time.. if you guys are sitting around doing nothing then ya must be doing it WRONG or at the very least in the wrong place... NOW while I do enjoy hunting.. sitting in a tree stand for hours just swaying with the trees while very relaxing I could understand how some people would call that boring.. but I'm sure Sean will agree all the boring hours are forgotten once you get to watch that big un walk right under your stand without ever knowing you're there about to end his existence... WOOO HOOO BANG!!! or as some of us prefer the more stealthy bow approach... TWANG!![]()
Hey no problem mang! Thats what I do, I like that rather than the $30.00 hex or allen. By the way I'm always hungry
