There are plenty of bikes with higher hp and torque numbers, but I've had seven seasons on my 1000cc Multi and it's got plenty of oomph for group rides and spirited riding with a pillion. I don't recall having it pinned and wishing for more.

Re: Help me choose a bike....

I went to sit on the Hyper and the Monster today.

The Hyper is a really nice package but like all dirtbikes/motards its hard to feel connected to them sitting up high like that...it felt fine but not exactly right. The Monster felt good. The size was right, knees fit well under the tank etc......its a nice package....

eye of the beholder I guess...

I had one as a loaner for a week...two valve, air cooled, best sounding, and awesome torque...more fun in a fairly light, comfortable package. I love the sound and performance of the two valves. My 1200 multi has an awesome engine but my 2 valve ST2 and first gen multi had way more character...and my 800ss - just lovely!!!

I'm not really a duc guy, or even a euro bike guy for that matter. But I entirely see the appeal of the simpler air cooled ducs.

You gotta ride the fugly, Colin.

That 1000 2v is a sweetheart of a motor if you can get the thing started.

I know a lot of guys on here love the Ducs but I don't know if I would every buy one as a daily commuter. The maintenance is substantial and if you ever do go down you're probably gonna end up with a hefty bill. Plus insurance can't be cheap on a Duc.

Now I'm not saying that you gotta default to a Japanese bike because everyone likes to ride something a little more exotic than that, however I don't think you could fault someone for riding a Japanese naked bike to work every day.

I would say a Speed Triple is a great compromise between a Duc and a Jap bike.

I bet a Scrambler would be a fun 'round towner.

I know someone with a scrambler that's absolutely badass. It's got the Arrow 2-1 and it sounds outrageous.

He actually works at Triumph/Suzuki in Swansea MA and I think his dad is part owner. That's where my dad picked up his Bonneville it was a 2012 left over and they gave him a good deal. If youre looking for a Triumph stop by they're good guys. Ask for Cain he's the kid with the scrambler. Nice kid, really knowledgeable and he'll help you out with anything you need.

thanks...i'm looking forwards to logging some miles this spring...i chose it cause i figured it should be a pretty decent all around bike...can handle the highway but will still be fun on backroads, not too heavy, not too light, handles/steers light, comfortable ergos, reliable, low maintenance, tons of aftermarket parts and it's a little different from normal cruisers and standard bikes

I meant the new monster 1200, but in reality, I think the last of the air-cooled monsters are one of Ducatis very best products. THat 1100 evo is sweet all the way around.

That bike has almost the price of the bike in mods on it...

And I wanna know how all these people are doing upside down Ohlins forks on the Thruxton/Bonnie/Scrambler.

    Yeah, yeah, details.

I'd still ride the balls off of it. Something about the up-swept pipes just does it for me.

I think one of the Bonnie/Thruxton/Scrambler set would round out a garage full of 1200GS quite nicely.

    Because nobody would buy one.

Everyone loves the look of a cafe racer, but nobody is going to spend the $15k it would probably cost to build that bike to be in pain every time they rode it.

I almost bought a Monster 1100 last go, but wanted more pillion seat. Nice lightweight nimble bike.

I'm not sure about that. If triumph ever sold that I would be first on the list. The idea of having a cafe racer that I could rip around the track as well as look good on the street riding is very attractive to me and probably a lot of other people.

Even if they kept the cost down by using Showa suspension and maybe not Brembo brakes, the bike could still be 11.5-12.5k and I think that's a reasonable price point.
