I left Bemused out of this one even though that is the only right answer to any poll because I really want to know which shot is better?

We'll just say that Bemused wins hands down and that evenone voted for him.

    Thanks

Smugglers has better lighting and composition. Plus you didn't erase your plate number in nottingham and that just detracts from the whole thing.

Smuggs is better. The bike pops out and next to a twisty road is more appropriate background. Nottingham, the lighting is dim, the bike is barely even noticable, the road is straight and the pavement is all beat up and nasty.

PLUS, the nottingham pic has not only powerlines in it (top right corner) but their shadows! YUCK.

I know opinions are like assholes, but fukit, i'm gonna talk about mine.

I actually think Nottingham COULD be better if you touched it up and made it brigher and edited out the powerlines & shadows that sahd brought up. There's more lighting contrast, more content, and at least you stopped on a shitty road instead of the nice twisties.... I could never pull to the side of a road & take a picture of my bike next to a set of corners like that

The "answer" of which one is better really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a picture of a bike w/ a twisty road, obviously Smuggs. If you're looking for depth, contrast & content, Nottingham.

    Smuggs is definitely better.

Notthingham has blown out highlights.. definitely a big no-no.

Convert Nottingham to a black and white photo and pull some detail out of the shadows and it could look a lot stronger.

The centered horizon hurts the Nottingham shot too, as well as some of the clutter in the background.

The Smuggs shot is definitely a keeper. I generally don't like "bike on side of road shots", and so I don't take them very often.. but the Smuggs one works.

Depth of the photo and details on Smuggs area also way better. That clutter in Nottingham is driving me crazy. Yeah, you could photoshop it out and go through a ton of computerized enhacement steps, but I really think that the Photoshop abilities we all have access to take away the fun and art of getting great photos. Use Smuggs.

I think that the hues and contrast in the first picture show that you are overtly homosexual, while the brazen, forward colors of the second picture show that you are a flaming pile of douche.

The Nottingham surroundings are much better (too much road surface in the other one).

You should go back to that spot in Nottingham, park in the exact same spot but stand at 4 o'clock from the bike (instead of 5 o'clock). Then, make sure that the road takes up less of the bottom of the picture. Also, make sure that house and the unregistered Trans-maros in the backyard are outside the right side of your view finder.

    Then you'll have a winner.

Nottingham would be better if you were on the right road

the problem with the notch is too much traffic most of the time

    Both are good

what was further to the left on the nott pic?

there are two ways to use objects in a shot .. as the subject ... as the back drop. The nott pic looks confused in my op.

the smugg could be a great pic with a tweak or two. do you have any other angles from that spot?? the bike does pop but only if you like BIG BUTTS. I would have taken the same shot with the bike as part of the backdrop headed up the road to the left about where the tree is just above the grab bar. the subject is definately the twisty road.

I love twisties and love to imagine the ride thru and powering out. your tail section blocks full view of that great twisty

with a digital cam i took thirty pics of one spot and only had two great shots the others were ok buuuuuut none were winners

are u goin ridin this weekend??? there are some winning pic locations in Conn. I know it would be a hike for u. the whole nothern CT border of mass and even some areas of south western mass there are so many great backdrops with rolling hills with gentlemen farms with white fences, horses. twisties with great foliage, old churches, settlement homes(1700's vintage)

    anyway

when I break away from work this weekend I am going to snap a few shots and post up here

sorry for the blah blah blah
