Well then, that being the case (gear, etc) I'd give riding with him a shot as well. Don't get me wrong. I agree with the idea of having the freedom to choose to or not to wear gear. I just choose "to" and ride with others that do. Showing up with a helmet but no other gear and wearing a t-shirt, shorts and flip flops just screams "stay away from this one" to me. The ones I see dressed like that are usually also (I did say usually, not always) doing something unsafe or stupid at the same time.

    Thank You OreoGaborio....

Looking at my avatar.... I guess it's easy to consider me a "squid" but I like to consider myself a professional. I've competed all over the country and I've performed in well over 1000 sanction events. I've been actively involved in the development of American Streetbike Freestyle / Stunt Riding for over 5 years. I've worked along side companies like ClearChannel, Red Bull, Red Duc, Motophoria, Hindle, Nault's Honda, and many others.... most I've simply forgotten about over the years. I've released 4 stunt riding DVD's counting for over 40,000 copies nationwide. I take this shit seriously. As for the pictures in my avatar... they were taken in 95 degree weather. I very rarely leave 1st gear and still wear multiple layers, gloves, helmets, heavy shoes, heavy jeans, knee braces, and elbow pads 100% of the time. When I compete, I have full leathers supplied by my sponsor (www.motophoria.com). I wouldn't be here today if I made incorrect decisions.

Look, I have the utmost respect for safety, danger, and overall awareness. You don't become a master of the motorcycle overnight, unscathed, and unharmed. Believe me, I didn't learn how to do a no handed wheelie on interstate highways, endangering others. I've probably seen more accidents and been involved in more accidents than 90% of you people. Most of you don't even know what it's like to crash at 80-90mph... I do. Most of you have no clue what it's like to be unable to walk for 2-3 months... I do. I hate to sound like Tom Cruise on the today show but I guess my point was.... I'VE HAD ENOUGH WITH THE BITCHING!! Preach to them, not us. Everytime I come on here, I see another "I saw a squid today" thread.

Please continue to have your beliefs, opinions, and continue to push safety on your friends, family, and significant others... I embrace it. But coming on here and complaining about Joe "I'm cool on a motorcycle with shorts and shades" isn't going change the mentality of these morons. They will learn like the rest of us. Some make it out of that stage alive and some don't. If you ride a motorcycle, I'm sure you've accepted the dangers and possibilities you're faced with. Leathers or not, people die on motorcycles.

people not wearing gear just advertise the fact that they make bad choices in general. Not the kind of person you want on a bike.

example, kid in fall river the other day lost a foot because he was cutting in and out of traffic, and wearing sneakers.

What about people who jump into the middle of stunt riding sessions to take pictures / video? Doesn't seem safe to me.

There is nothing wrong stunting and giving a show when it is in a controlled environment. You know what you're doing, and you put only yourself at risk. What you do, many people enjoy watching it. But when they do, they are safe, out of your reach if you do a bad maneuver in front of them. Those who stunt freely on any given streets/highways endanger everyone around them. To you, stunting is probably also an income, you pride yourself about doing it as a professional, putting lots of hours of practice, competing, etc. Hey, maybe someday we'll see you stunting for a big screen movie.

apparently, and not wearing gear automaticly makes you a squid

I would agree that not wearing gear and going out stunting or riding at a spirited pace, you are a squid

going for a wind in your face ride without gear does not make you a squid

IIRC this site started when another sportbikes site became to annoying with safety nazi's, but since there's little to no activity there, all the safty nazi's are here now

he lost his foot cause of his squidly riding behavior, his sneakers did not make him crash

Yea, that is exactly what I'm saying. If you've accepted a job that requires you to stand on the deck of an aircraft carrier, you've must accept the possibilty of dying from an accident involving a plane.

The same with flying a commerical airplane. If you fly, take responsibilty for your decision in flying. If you don't want to take the chance of dying in a plane crash, then drive.

If you ride a motorcycle, you should have already accepted the possibility you might die on it.

While we're here talking about squids, can someone tell me the true definition and origin of the word "Squid"? I have a pretty good idea what it means, but, someone clarify!!

Yea, maybe... but I doubt it. I've actually taken a small leave of absence from the whole stunt riding thing. I just bought a house and putting myself in harms way doesn't protect what I have. I'm making responsible decisions

Maybe when I become a little more financially comfortable, I can "up" the risk factor again.

You know...I think it's funny when people say "I just went for a short ride around the neighborhood to get some air" wearing shorts and sandals, when I hear a lot of people saying that motorcycle accidents happen just a few minutes away from their driveway. 3 weeks ago, a friend of us told his wife "i haven't ridden in a while, I'll take the bike out for a short spin". He took his nice 999 Ducati for a short ride, less than a mile away from coming back home, a pick up truck turned in his lane and he went flying in it, broke his arm, bike finished. That's only one example I know of. Accidents on your bike do not always happen miles away from your home. You can be the BEST rider, go out lightly dressed up, and still get hit by a stupid moron who do not know how to drive their car. Around the house/city is not necessarily the safest place to ride...I'd think it might actually be the worse place...

Yeah, I dumped my G/F bike right in front of my house. 5 minute ride on a motorcycle offers the same dangers as a 55 minute ride.

Dude... you're conforming all of these original statements into something else.

"accepting" danger does not equal "creating" danger. I never said that or even hinted around anything like that.
