In my opinion I don't think it has, but again I've never ridden one that hasn't been lowered to know the difference in the ride. mine rides really good & I have also done the track with it & it runs good.
Hey, I started with a 250, so a 650 honestly still seems a little scary to me! I'm aiming for more upright or at least something I can alter to make closer to it. I checked out a bunch of stuff up at Great Bay, and the new monster was almost perfect, I could have ridden it from stock seemingly comfortably, just a little high of a price tag for me at the moment. And yes, the ex500 is just about the ugliest bike ever in my opinion![]()

Can't argue with that. monsters are great. My friends has an 05. They are comfortable and very light feeling. Definitely a bike you can flat foot. I'm just a huge fan of fairings.

There's clip-ons with higher rise or if you get a naked model, you can change the handlebars....or you can swap S triples to N triples with handlebar risers.
Plenty of people with SVs swap from S to N or N to S.
What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.
Carla - If you want to try out my SV650s (it's been lowered about an inch maybe 1 1/2), just let me know! it was the first bike I rode (after MSF), and from what I'm told, raising/lowering it an inch or so doesn't really effect anything. The SVs are quite speedy (as pete can tell you since he races one). And again from what I'm told it's a bike you can start on and grow into and be comfy with for a few years - I don't see myself trading for anything bigger anytime soon!

2001 SV650s
I love mine, I had it for over 5 years now, and it is my 6th bike. (To be clear: pre-2003 and naked)
-I have never had an issue with the seat hight. As Richie correctly (amazing!) stated, I am 5'3. It is quite comfy for me. I also have an upgraded gel seat, helps a tiny bit am sure. But even if it was 1-2 taller I would still be ok. I start having problems when things are tall and heavy (like RC51 or Richie's KTM).
-It is a V twin - it sounds (and feels;) awesome. It will wheely readily if you want it to. Engine is very nice and even, a little drop at 6k rpm with stock exhaust, but I only mention it because there is absolutely nothing else wrong with the thing.
-It is a "standard" meaning it is an upright bike, yet it will lean all the way to the edge of the tire. I have aftermarket bars (and you can get clip-ons if you really want) to get me just a bit more crouched, but that is just my taste. Stock bars will keep you upright and comfy.
-I have a cowl now, but back when the back seat was on, passengers found it comfy and nice.
-The back end can use some esthetic cleanup, but you can get an undertail very easily and make it look sexy as hell. I suggest integrating blinkers into the tail light too =D
-You can always convert it into a great race bike (<-my profile pic is on my ex-race SV...[sigh],) Pre-2003 anyway. Those are my fav =) You can also make it into a badass street fighter very easily.
-I am attaching a pic of mine, so you can see how cool it looks if you ducktape it! (It is no longer ducktaped...) Also you can see an undertail option. The thing needs to get painted, I know, I know...
-Always plenty of parts for these things, and they are easy to work on (well draining the carbs is a bit of a pain, but otherwise...). Easy to set to GP shift pattern too!
-There is a cool forum you might be interested in checking out http://www.svrider.com/forum/
I should also mention that they are a lot cheaper and less finicky than Monsters. Monsters are sexy, no argument, but for the money it is SV for me.
I would say because of "minus the finicky" it is a lot less intimidating. Also, when I test rode a Monster, I had serious trouble reaching the clutch lever, even at the closest setting. It engaged/disengaged at the very fingertips for me, making the thing jump. For our size hands we need an aftermarket mod there... With the SV - no problem, I have mine set very lose and I love it.
And honestly, it will take you less than a week to feel like the thing is no bigger than the 250, fear not ;) This bike is a pussy cat, and quite light and balanced.
Final word of advice: do not lower it. It will just compromise other things, and it is not at all necessary at 5'3, I promise you.
I hope this helps and you decide to get one =)
P.S. If you really hate the naked look (it is an acquired taste, and I had to get there), you can get the model with the fairings and go newer. It will look a lot more like a sport bike. Even if you get the "naked" version, there are plenty of aftermarket fairings you can throw on.

Slowly and predictably... slowly and predictably!!!
Like others have said, a GSX-R is pretty low (stock). I have a 2006 750 and I flat foot with knee's bent. I'm 5'10"
Yeah, a 696 or 796 Monster....Hot chick, hot bike. Oh yeahhh

The new ninja 650 is sexy as hell and they look pretty low
I went from an EX250 to a 650R and I love it. It is very similar to the 250 in the low end and gentle enough that you won't loop it, but in the higher end of the gears its torquey, responsive, nimble. Basically the same thing as the SV650 but I like the looks better and loved the upright seating position, super comfortable.

Carla, you need a bike with as big of a personality as yours.
Find a newer used monstah!
Not a monstah, but this might be an option?

Amanda could flatfoot my SV1kS but she's tippie toe on her gsxr. The seat on the gsxr is substantially lower than the SV but the bike is much wider. The narrow engine makes it easier to reach the ground
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

I have a Monster which I bought for my wife and I find I am the one mostly riding it. It is a blast. I bought it used for a lot less than what a new one was. It is a 2009 696 with the termi racing package. The monster has 3 different Ducati seat options: stock, touring and lowered. The stock seat sucks for guys - kills the nuts thanks to the powerful Brembo brakes! The touring seat is superb for comfort - have done 350 miles. I don't have the lowered seat. With the 14T front sprocket mod (a very common one) the bike is plenty fast and powerful. if you want to test ride one PM me.
Triumph Bonneville SE...
The most famous name in motorcycling. A legend. Over 50 years of engineering excellence. A thoroughly modern interpretation of the authentic 'proper' motorcycle. This iconic symbol of rebellion and independence is even more appealing now thanks to its modern specification, low seat, clean fuel-injected 865cc engine and lightweight 17 inch alloys for even sharper handling. Stirs the heart, not the wallet.
$8,699... I know someone who may very well sell it to you for less.

As nice as that 919 is, its a giant step from a Ninja 250. The inline 900cc engine is worlds apart from the 250, and not just in what happens when you twist it hard....just a nudge the wrong way can send the rpm's to the moon (Neil Armstrong shout out!)
An SV or Monster with thier twins dont rev like lightning...the monster does have a better and quicker throttle than the SV which is more forgiving.
Carla, look for monsters....and Dankatz offered his to try out. Im 1000000000% sure Seacoast will give you the red carpet treatment with a test ride too!!

What about a Shiver? Decent seating, plenty of power, but you can turn the power down when you don't want it. Don't know anything about their reliability though.

Thanks JohnMy dad's been a duc guy all my time I've been alive, so I've always had an attraction to them, they're just sexy
I'm not totally sure my real budget, I'm hoping buying at the end of a season will help, and I'm still trying to get my K series truck in the garage too. I'd love to say around 5-7k, any higher than that and I might as well just be naughty and get the new monster. God that thing was gorgeous. The guinea in me says frivolous spending is a "no-no" so I'd like to exercise self control here. You know me though, shiny sparkly things are deadly, and I LOVE loud and obnoxious (visual, not noise)
You may see a pm soonThanks for offering this up, the earlier years I am ok with, but from memory of all of my father's, I'd be spending some of the saved money on more maintenance, am I correct in this assumption? I admit to not having done much for research other than this thread for this possible purchase.
I agree with the giant step comment here, I really don't need it, and it makes me a bit nervous to be honest, I still consider myself a new rider with how much road experience I have, this seems like too much bike for a little girl.
Haha glad I'm not alone on the looks here![]()

Lol of course Kenn, I do love the look of this one, and when I went to Great Bay, this was the one in particular I went to check out. It was the most uncomfortable thing I've sat on for a bikeI think my big ass needs a little more support! It made me sad since I love it's styling. Alex's triple fits like a glove, but I'd kill myself, and I love my life most of the time

This aint a big grand touring anything.. it's a 800cc houligan bike that has very little maintenance needed.. ( unlike a Duc )

The 2009 Monster has 7500 mile maintenance schedule which will cost about $800. Most people don't ride this many miles on them in one year, more like two years. The maintenance is easy if one wants to do it themselves, but I bring mine to Seacoast. My Ducati has 11k miles and has been economical (up to 57mpg), reliable, fun and I have had maintenance twice in two years. First time major and second time a couple of weeks ago for some minor (oil change, lube, etc....) which was $160 at Seacoast, but was worth it. The bike felt smoother. I think it is a terrific bike unless you plan to spend thousands of miles on the highways where better choices exist.
