He just blows by the field right from the start. Is being on the outsides of the grid preferred? Worked out pretty good for this guy.

He's going to jinx himself tooting his own horn like that, looks like he only ran a 1:25 or so on his second lap.
He probably just got a great start or maybe jumped the flag and didn't get caught? Hell he may have gotten caught and you just can't tell from the video?
I can't open the video because my linux box is unsupported, but if that's what I'm thinking about, it's Eric Sampson. he didn't jump the start and he never does. He's just great at them. His first year racing this past season and he was dipping into the 17's I believe. That weekend I think he was running 20-22's on a bone stock bike, suspension included. If the clock reads 25's on his first lap off the grid that's pretty damn good.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Yeah, it's Sampson's vid.

Isn't that Gordon that he is gridded behind??

I meant the second lap.. not the first one. And it was only a guestimate because the video fades out on the final straight. But he was at 1:18 or so just getting out of the final corner.
It's just the general idea of being careful how much you brag. But what do I know, MC racers seem to love to boast, maybe it is required to keep your head in the game.
Yeah, that's what I thought too... looks like him but I'm not sure.Originally posted by snaggle

It's not really boasting, when you're racing you know when you're doing something right and when you're not. And when you nail a corner, or a start, or a pass just right....well, you know you did it just right, and it's a great feeling.Originally posted by benVFR

Hell, we don't just go on and on about what we do right, we tell stories about our crashes and how we screwed up just as much if not more!
Sampson is a great rider and racer though. he's also an instructor for Team Promotion. Maybe rookie of the year.

Trackday ride: 2001 gsxr 600
Pit Bike: Xtreme 125 cc
Cage toy: 1980 Jeep CJ-5 It will wheelie too.
Daily beater: 2005 Chevy Colorado 4x4 four door.
you can definitly see the places that he was losing time. He improved 'em all I'm sure to dip into the 17's.Originally posted by SVRACER01

I love watching that video....Sampson has it playing to Korn on his myspace profile.
Yeah Sampson is a good racer, especially for a rookie this year.
The launchs are kinda hard to nail it just right and its hard to go into turn one like that with confidence.......But like Jay said above when your racing and you nail it just right and everythings is smoothe...Its just awesome!

He didn't pre register and arrived to the track very late to register for his races.Originally posted by gixx6man

if ya aint braggin you're either "just that damn good" OR "you suck"!
Sampson is a rookie to racing but hardly a rookie to riding. He's ridden tracks up and down the East Coast and has been a Instructor with Team Promotion for a few years. His CBR600 had over $3500 in extras.
Eric seems a nice guy and had a good year racing.
ps: Getting killer holeshots wasn't all that hard in Novice. That was probably the biggest difference I noticed from Novice to Amateur. Guys were better at starts.

speaking of starts, are you allowed to practice that in hot pit?

Seems so. Wouldn't recommend it at the start of practice (when dozens of bikes are all traveling thru the Hot Pit).. but often during practice sessions guys (myself a few times too) would Pit in.. hang out on Hot Pit for a few (leaning against the left wall), do a 'Start' and Pit Out again.Originally posted by OreoGaborio

Pitting In during a session is a great way to catch a short breath, wait up for a friend / rider you want to chase, or just get away from a large group of riders you don't want to be around.

Ya...that's me in front of him in the video...for about one second...but a 1997 beater against a new 2005 CBR600RR is not much of a match. Then again, he's definately a better racer than I.Originally posted by snaggle
