Honda wants a piece of the naked midsize P-twin market, and the midsize ADV market:

The new Hornet will be powered by a 755cc Parallel-Twin 8-valve Unicam engine with a 270° crank. Honda claims an output of 90.5 hp at 9500 rpm, 55.3 lb-ft. at 7250 rpm, with “exhilarating top-end punch” and a “full-fat measure of mid-range torque.”

Is the parallel twin the least sexy engine layout? Besides a thumper?

I'll definitely be interested to see the Hornet when they release more details and whether or not it's an actual contender with the DukeR.
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
As always with Honda, there are motorcycles and then there are motorcycles that get to the USA.
I’ve learned to ignore the hype until they announce that the model will get here…
New CB750 Hornet revealed.
90.5hp, 418lbs wet. TFT display, slipper clutch, throttle by wire, Bluetooth cellphone interface. OEM quickshifter and saddlebags available.
The guys on the 919 and 599 groups are super cranky that this is named Hornet, since it’s a parallel twin and not an I4.
I like it.

Reminds me a lot of the CB1000R they sold for a few years before streetfighters/nakeds finally became cool again. I'm actually surprised how much power they've wrung out of the engine, given Honda's track record over the past decade.
That said I'm more interested in the upcoming TransAlp.

And bargain basement suspension. Ugh.
Rumors of an "R" model already circulating.

A poor man’s 890 Duke at a $4,500 discount it seems. Down on power, up on weight, basic suspension. More of an FZ-07 rival really.

15 hp more and only 13 lbs heavier than the current MT07.
I didn’t like the egos of the older FZ07 when I sat on it (but the Z650 right next to it in the showroom felt absolutely perfect). Hoping I like this one better, this is the first new bike in a while I am actually excited about.
Lots of negative comments on how it looks like the CB500F, and I agree - the headlight and tail/seats look to be identical. I’m ok with that, I think it looks good and helps keep the cost down.
I think someone on Reddit summed the looks up best:
"I am whelmed."

I think it’ll probably be a nice bike. Definitely whelming though.

Yes and no. I rode the 890 Duke on a short loop at DirtDaze. It definitely has better suspension, brakes and power. But, it is also more of a an upright sports bike whereas this bike is really aimed at being a standard. For daily commuting, I probably would prefer this. For Sunday fun rides - most definitely the Duke. I think the competition is stiff. The third gen MT-07 is excellent and so is the Triumph Trident. I used to commute on the original Triumph street triple R and found it too much with suspension that was a little stiff for Boston roads and gearing that was weird. Triumph gets it which is why they have the trident along the street triple R
New XL750 Transalp released today. Still no word on if it and the Hornet are coming to USA.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Honda didn't do any de-tuning for the TA. They also did a good job keeping weight in check. That said, it's also got a lot of pretty glaring negatives, like non-adjustable suspension and lack of CC.
