Saw a cbr 250 @ a track day tues-wed. Did pretty well @ nhms. Not a lot of top end for the main straight but the rider said it was a blast everywhere else. He was like 5'10" 220 and usually runs a Duc.

Small bikes are soooooo much fun. Recent comparo in Cycle World, they liked the CBR better than the Ninja.

    Re: Honda CBR 250

i've had my 250r since early may, i got a good deal on it, better than i could on a used ninja 250. i like it better anyway, fuel injected, digital instrument panel, and better fuel economy. i use mine for commuting to boston and foxboro from providence and it does well on the highway.

probably a great bike for a beginner, throttle and brakes are very forgiving and it's very light

    my write up on it:

I was at NHMS on Tues/Wed as well. It looked really good in person. It seemed quite narrow, and I never got that impression from the pictures I'd seen.

The finish seemed a small notch above the Kawasaki. I was dying to go a lap or two on it...

    Re: Honda CBR 250

In my opinion the CBR250 is the BEST of the 250's, knocking off the long standing Ninja 250, which is still an awesome 250.

Fuel injection, VFR1200 styling, great ergos, cheap price...GET ONE!

They already have a FI ninja 250 in Europe so really all they need to do is bring the damn thing over.

    Re: Honda CBR 250

I ride with a passenger on our '99 Ninjette every once in a while. No problem for normal everyday roads and traffic. I weigh 200+, and my wife is maybe 125. I would really like to stud it up for the ice one of these years.... IMO, it has a great motor for that kind of duty.
That Yamaha looks really neat, but I would not be interested unless it was a 2 stroke. Same with the new KTM 125 Duke.
I am a very experienced, 50 year old rider, and I *love* the little Ninja. I have ridden it to neighboring states, with no issues at all. As long as my knees are able to bend, I will keep riding it as often as I can.
I would like to try out one of the new Honda's, though...

    Re: Honda CBR 250

i'll be honest i was dead set on getting the ninja when i decided to get a commuter but i just couldn't find a good deal on one. then i started reading about each bike more and, correct me if i'm wrong, the ninja underwent a body change but the technology was essentially the same.

what i liked about the honda was that it was completely new, price, and i'm fairly partial to the brand. so i went back to the dealership i got my last two bikes from and they gave me a very fair price, much cheaper than the 09 ninja's i was looking at, so i pulled the trigger.

if any of the dealerships would have come off their prices just a little on the pre-owned ninja's i might have never even considered the honda

    Re: Honda CBR 250

The only significant change to the 08+ Ninjette is valve shim head design, instead of screw and lock nut adjusters. Personally, I do not consider that to be a beneficial change.
The 08+ versions are supposedly a bit down on top end power, but have a bit more mid range compared to the previous generation.

Anyone know if any NH dealers have any on the show room floor, and are possibly allowing test rides for those interested in buying?

i love those RS50s. best part is sticky rubber is easy to find since the rear is a 120/17. just throw a front tire on the rear.

    Re: Honda CBR 250

    Initial impressions:
    - The 250 single is NOT in any way similar to their MX motors as far as power output. Tame is an understatement. Nutters in Thailand have already determined exactly how far you can deck the head and cylinder and are scoping out new cam grinds... Powercommander is in the works... Wait, it's a 250, just ride it! Spin it, use the gearbox, it'll go and you'll have a big grin doing so without breaking any laws.
    - Brake pads are the mildest organic compound Honda could find. There is no initial bite, or mid bite, or panic bite. Add to that VERY spongy rubber lines and the brakes are NOT impressive at all. I can see the theory, almost impossible for a new rider to overbrake by accident, but they are also increasing the stopping distance of the bike significantly. New lines and some EBC HH's should clear that issue up nicely.
    - Excellent fit and finish. I'm ashamed to say in some areas it's better assembled than my Duc was.
    - Stock suspension is taut, frame is tight, handling is beautiful... it's stock?! For a 145lb rider Honda nailed it out of the crate. It might even be a touch oversprung?
    - Narrow where it needs to be, my WR250 could learn a thing or three from it in that department.
    - Fairing and screen provide a decent bubble.
    - Mirrors work well, but look like bug eye stalks.
    - Headlight throws a decent pattern, could be a touch brighter though.
    - Some dealers are demanding more than MSRP due to the scarcity of the bike and it's popularity.
    - ECU needs to be a touch more agressive about bumping the idle up or richening the mix when cold, doesn't like to idle when first fired up for first 10 seconds or so. Wonder if that's user adjustable?

    Re: Honda CBR 250

friend i ride with has one. fun little bike.

    good torque for a 250

we actually did some hooliganism and raced a stock 2010 ninja250 with a 2011 Honda 250. ended up 15 wins for the Kawi 5 wins for the Honda. They were all really close, but the ninja has way more top end and the Honda does better down low.

oh ya and the Honda 250 is averaging about 70mpg . . damn that nice lol
