MA Attorney General may ask for 18% drop in Auto insurance premiums
This would save me like $400 and my Record is totally clean next year so if Romney's plan goes through that would be an additional 5%.![]()
So what's the deal? I keep hearing on the radio how drivers with clean records pay alot more so people with a 'history' can have cheaper rates (in MA.). Is that true? (I'm too lazy to look it up)

I heard the same thing...only I don't get it. If we pay based on the step system how can someone with more tickets, accidents ect pay less than me??Originally posted by bentbryan

I'm too lazy to look it up too...
The article says that is true actually. I didn't know that.
I think it is more like this.
In NH I would be paying $500 or less for my bike insurance. (I am pretty close to being back to a perfect record - 5 years clean right now)
A guy in NH who had a whole bunch of tickets, accidents, suspensions, etc.. might be paying $3000-4000 for the same bike.
In MA they make all the people like me pay $1100. Since there are a lot of us it lets the idiots be able to ride for $2000.
I don't think someone who is a really bad rider/driver is ever going to pay less then someone with a clean record Jaynnus it just makes it so people who drive like assholes can have a slightly more affordable premium.
It is not real fair, it is one thing to say we need to provide welfare or something for people who had a tough upbringing, are handicapped, whatever. But there is no way we need to provide artificial assistance to people with bad driving records... they are just bad drivers, it's totally their fault.
One more thing... it looks like MA law makes it illegal for an insurance company to refuse to cover a driver as long as they have a license.
That would seriously drive up costs for the rest of us, we're paying for the people who would otherwise be uncoverable.
What's killing me is the new way they insure motorcyclists. Previously, as long as you had your driver's license for at least 6 years, you were insured as an "experienced driver," even if you had your motorcycle endorsement for less than 6 years.
Now they changed it, where if you have had your motorcycle licesnse for less than 6 years, your insurance went through the roof. In Needham, which is a low insurance town, my bike went from around $900(?) close to $1500(more than my car in Needham). I moved to Medford...luckily I'm garaging my bike in Needham, which helps with the insurance. I don't even want to know what it would jump to.
I've only had my motorcycle license since last summer, so I have a way to go.

I'm not sure what's going on with that. I've had my MC license a little over 4 years, and mine hasn't gone up at all.
yeah, same here, hasn't gone up as far as I knowOriginally posted by benVFR

I moved to MA 5 years ago... and according to insurance, I'm "inexperienced" because I have had my Massachuestts motorcycle license for less than 6 years.
Even though I've had a motorcycle endorsement for over 10 year. I would have to write the DMV in Ohio and have them send my driving record here to prove I've had my endorsment.
As for insurance in general up here... it sucks.

OK so that is cool. My insurance will go down at some point
It is not that bad really. I am paying half as much as I was in New York City. I think New York penalized you more for your driving record or maybe Massachusetts started me over or something.
Oh wait, I have only been in Massachusetts for 1.5years so I have to wait 4.5 more years for it do go down?
Check your insurance information... see if it lists you as an inexperienced operator.Originally posted by MsHap

If it does, then you can get a copy of your NY driving record from the state of NY and then send that to your insurance company and they should credit you the years that you've been licensed.
It's too big of pain in the arse for me... since next year, I should have enough years on my MA license to get the discount.
