I've crashed .. 30years , a couple hundred thousand miles ....
I'm sure I could have gone the rest of my days without having said that .
And the way I feel .... I wish I could .
One fractured Scapula and a core section that feels like Mike Tyson had 15 rounds then took a bite !
My beautiful Arai Nakano helmet saved my life ! ( not so beautiful anymore but I love it just the same )
My Joe Rocket 5.0 ballistic Suit ( believe it or not ) saved my Hide ! ( except for a dollar bill size LIGHT 1st layer of skin on my left shoulder )
Daytona Boots , Wonderful !
Held Gloves , Perfect !
Story as best as I can recall ..
Having just got gas in Salisbury our route to get us up to the Maine Bike event this weekend was 95 for a bit .
The on-ramp was as far as I got !!!!
I was first in a group of three other BMW's . My K12rs , a GSA and a GS .
We leave the station and the ramp is just 100 yards down the road . As best as I can recal as I type this , it was a long straight ramp like most others that merge to a highway . So like most of us I round the corner and fly up the ramp . As I type this I remember going at a good clip 2/3rd gear 95/100 mph . From out of no-where the rear steps out to the left ! grabs , then to the right !
I wake up on my back to fire, emt's , police, my two buds ........
I'm sure It was a horrific sight to my good friends and for that I'm truly sorry !
I Love those guys ! .......... chocking up as I type ....
I DON'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THIS !
A fully loaded BMWK12rs pushes 780lbs with my 240lbs thats some LBS !
That bike just doesn't step out of line for no reason ?
The Bike is at a buds house . I saw it quick yesterday . No visible signs of any oil leaks or anything . I'll get more time this weekend to look it over .
My buds just saw the show and can't tell for sure if I hit anything or ...........
Thoughts ?
first of, glad you are ok. no crashes in 30 years is one heck of a streak to ruin.
just steped out? i would have to guess sand, oil, or something of that nature. how was your rear tire pressure? i was at a loss to explain my tank slapper highway crash in april...till we picked up the bike at the impound yard the next day, front tire flat as hell.
glad to hear you're okay. Heal up soon...

If you run into a wall with a helmet on, you still ran into a wall.
Sorry about the crash, it sucks. I had the same type of thing happen in a much more limited way happen last fall where the back end stepped out at about 25mph around a corner almost corrected and then went down and dislocated my elbow. For the life of me I cannot think of why the back end stepped out (I have been riding around the corner daily for almost 5 years), closest I can come up with is cold tires and a suspicious manhole cover.
Heal up quick and get back out there.
I piss excellence!
Well , a couple buds think that I may have missed third gear .
Running up the ramp pulling redline shifts , shifted up to third through out the clutch only to still be in second !
Possible .....
I'm still bummed .. BUT VERY HAPPY TO BE TYPING THIS !
Second day at work and alls well ,, sore but well !!!!![]()
glad to hear your alright get well soon man
HOLY SHIT, STEVE! Gahd damn, I'm sorry to hear that but glad to hear you'll live to ride another day.

Get well soon, good to see gear held up.
I always am wary of getting oil and such on my tires when gassing up, I don't know how quickly that stuff comes off the tires.
Glad to hear you're doing well man. The first time down is a bummer.....make it the last time down! As far as what caused it, forget about it. Move on, count your blessings and get back riding. After my crash I worried to much about what I did wrong, and riding wasn't fun for a long time.
oh man. glad you are ok. Must have been some oil or sand. I always see a ton of oil in the road in toll booths when I roll through. It creeps me out to get that on my tires. Good on you for wearing gear and being able to tell the story!
At least you have the VFR still! (if thats yours in your avatar)
