People have actually been out ice fishing on some of the lakes around us and I'm told parts of our lake are 3-4" thick. Where I like to put our track was open this weekend, but should start freezing nicely these next few days. We have the inlet from Halfmoon that flows directly into our track. No, I won't move it...that's where it goes...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
pond behind my house was 6" last weekend (before the rain) but I haven't measured it since. I'll check tommorow but it prob about the same as what you have up on LL. I just picked up some of those ice screws for my YZ-85...
ice is 5"!! Gotta finish the sled trailer project i've got going then I'm throwin some of those screws on the pit bike for some fun

Just AMA screws, sharp ones though. Couple inches of dust on smooth ice. Paul, you should know by now everything I do is peculiar.
Well I must have done something right, not sore and ridiculous fun was had! Gino, will YOU be the someone who tells me what I'm supposed to do??
Any suggestions on the cheap for hand protection from the wind?

Hippo hands combined with hot grips is the cats meow! It's amazing how much more fun the riding is if you're hands are warm and in normal offroad riding gloves, vs being cold with big thick winter gloves

Nope, but I might go to Joe's Pond next, it's only a few miles from home. Should be plenty of ice there by this weekend. The pic was at Marshfield Reservoir.

Merry Christmas to me: (these are going in Smutty's old ktm 125 for woods use and some ice)

Are those going to be any good on ice? I thought you needed real ice screws for ice.
Ya those are good for packed trails. We will be out this weekend if you want to try out a 'real' set of tires on the ice. PM sent

From what I've been told, not nearly as good as screws for clear ice, but better in other respects (woods riding, durability, legal for winter hare scrambles)...I've only ever ridden ice with these type of tires (more than 10 years ago, almost 20) and had a freaking blast...I expect to get smoked by guys with "real" ice tires with screws on the ponds, but so what. All my local friends have these type of tires, so at least when riding with them, it will be a level playing field. Not that it will matter, they were faster than me even when I was active with it, never mind older, slower, and rusty...
In surfing they say "he who is having the most fun is the best surfer" so I am approaching ice riding with the same mindset. Bottom line, I chose these because I don't want to only ride ponds and will never ice race.
Yeah, there's places where (I'm told) it's at least 6-8" thick. Problem for us is, the inlet from Halfmoon basically cuts off our cove from the rest of the lake until that particular area catches up. Until then, even our access to the rest of the lake (ice) is somewhat limited. I'll know for sure how that one area is this weekend...
And yes, the prick that leans on his horn once in a while around 6:00am may just be me...![]()

I'm hoping to get all our machines ready for winter/ice riding this weekend, although we're all quadtards. No snow cover though, it's just clear ice. Not sure about actually laying out a track. People would go nutty if we used food coloring to layout the corners & shit. I may look into cones...
