so i'm looking for some more protective gear for next season and normally icon wouldn't be at the top of my list, but I'm looking for street riding stuff since that's where i do all my riding right now. When i start hitting track days I'll grab a 1 piece.
I'm looking around at leather pants without pucks and jackets that are comfortable both on and off the bike. I have seen A* has a couple pair of street leather pants and so does dainese but the ones that i think look the best are the Icon Overlord Prime pants and matching jacket.
I know Icon hasn't built the reputation that other companies have for race gear, but the reviews i could find for this set are good.
I'm not saying I'm getting them, as i'm still skeptical, but i was wondering if anyone had experience with them...
If i end up going with something else it will be a two piece set up... either A* or more likely RS Taichi
2006 Yamaha R1, Graves Full Exhaust, BST Carbon Fiber Wheels, K&N Air Filter, EGR Blockoffs, Factory Pro Velocity Stacks, Power Commander 5, Stealth 520 Conversion -1/+1, FP levers, Ohlins shock, Ohlins fg327 forks, Ohlins steering damper, Sato racing rearsets, Goodridge SS shadow brakelines, EBC Extreme pads, Braking SK wave rotors F&R. few other appearance mods.
Some Icon stuff is really nice, but i always see icon as a more Hooligan style. I wear a mesh SS jacket, and just bought the new SS Twist of fate 2.0 leather.

Mods: Flush mount turn signals, 2bros c-2 exhaust, Puig Carbon black windscreen, Michelin PR2's, Custom Icy Pearl white paint job w/ my own sharpie design, Ride it shorty clutch and brake levers
I love my dainese jacket never had one fit better right off the shelf same with there gloves . I paid the same amount as an Icon jacket I was looking at. I've been told by others the rs taichi is another good brand.

I would recommend getting whatever 2 piece that both fits you well and is track day quality... there's no "NEED" for a 1 piece unless you're racing, and even then that's arguable.
My first leather was an Alpinestars 2-pc suit... owned it for 3 or 4 years, crashed in it once or twice and raced with it for a full season before giving it away to another racer who used it for another season or two.
I know that doesn't really answer the question you're asking, but it might help ya out anyway.

I love my Kevlar Mesh Icon overpants.
I love my Icon boots for city riding.
I'm still looking at reviews and so on but the RS Taichi GMX-Motion jacket and pants are looking pretty good.
My one fear with buying the race type suit as opposed to the more street look is that I feel like i'll be more self conscious wearing the race pants with boots out and pucks. I use the bike a lot just to get to say the mall or to dinner ....etc
The leather pants cut more like jeans would definitely draw less attention....
but should i care if people think i look stupid?? no......
should i be as safe as possible?? yes....
Are they all street sufficient?? probably...
No matter which set i get i'll be upgrading the armor as i believe impact protection is a big concern on the street. Cars, trees, and guardrails can be pretty nasty.
decisions, decisions....

I have the icon overloard jacket and don't plan on buying anything else any time soon. Good quality with plentyyyy of ventilation. I didn't find myself too hot ever really this summer.

I have Icon Merc Long glove. They are great quality and have held up through many crashes on the track. I am going to be buying a set of the Overlord Long gloves for this year.

Icon quality varies a lot from model to model because it is a brand name slapped onto products that other companies manufacture. Something to do with Parts Unlimited, licensing and what not. Too tired, can't find the proper words to explain it...
Friends don't let friends wave to Can Ams
I have an Icon Accelerant jacket which has held up beautifully over the 3 years I've had it. I also have an Icon helmet that works just fine after the same time of ownership.
Icon gets a bad rep simply because of their marketing. From what I've seen of the gear, it's pretty good quality.
2023 KTM 890 Adventure R
If you can find a good sale price, go for it. All the Icon gear I've seen seems to be pretty decent quality, I just think their stuff is vastly overpriced. You can get quality gear from Cortech/Tourmaster for a lot less money... or for the price of an Overlord Prime jacket, you can get a Fox Creek Leather jacket, an A* jacket, or almost get a Vanson.

ordering the icon stuff..... if it gets here and i don't like it, i can send it back. I feel like i'll be more likely to actually put it on when i leave the house because i won't look quite as much like i'm headed to the track and i can walk around in it when i get where i'm going. After all, actually wearing it is the key, right.

I would go solid black on the jacket but this one has hints of white and red which will match my boots plus the skull screenprinting matches my helmet

like i said, i really like their art dept. their stuff looks cool and i think thats why they get such a bad rap. people think that they must be style over function. i personally havent heard anything bad about them other than the usual "its crap" but with nothing to back it up. maybe its because they cater to the street market and not the racetrack market

ICON stuff majority of the time gets the job done safety wise. Most of the gear fits/looks good for street usage. But as others said they're not the best "buy" for the money if you're paying close to retail, but if you can score the stuff at a discounted price by all means go for it.

I love my motorhead jacket and icon back protector. But like others said, I would probably only get it if I could get a discounted price as it probably isn't the best bang for the buck

lol... changed my mind at the last minute. Ended up going with the A* Tech 1-R jacket and the track pants. They wouldn't come off full retail for the Icon stuff and for an extra 90. I got A* top of the line.

I'm sure the quality will be there, i can hit track days if i decide to, and i'll get some textile pants or draggin jeans to wear with the jacket on short trips or easy rides. All the vendors i talked to said the icon stuff would be very hot on warm days, and that's when we ride the hardest.

Did you happen to look at the Cortech gear? They have a 'Latigo' jacket you can get from some sources for like $150 right now. Seems like a smokin' deal.
I've almost hit the 'add to cart' about 50 times now. Swore I was done buying gear for the year, but this seems like it would be a heckuva upgrade over my textile jacket.

i missed that one, but it sounds like a good deal... The A* stuff is already ordered and after looking at vendors, reviews, and videos about suits for the past two weeks. I'm done. Unless, it gets here and i hate it...lol
