Here we go again. I fell in love over the weekend with the Ducati S4R. The question is, should I trade (or sell) both honda's, just the Veefer, just the CBR600RR, or keep them all?
Whataya think?

It never hurts to have several ponies in the stable... you never know when one will go down......![]()
Life is full of curves...just lean into them!!!
Your gonna love the twin!
If you had to choose though, I'd keep the RR as the Duc can be a tourer too (just less wind protection than the vfr).
Then again.... I say keep all 3![]()

If money and the better half (if they exist) will allow it keep all of them. However I had to recently admit I have too many toys and not enough time to play with them.
IMO, The Veefer will trade better in a Ducati shop, the CBR will sell better through an ad in the paper. Look at all the toys and see which ones will keep you happy in the long run.
Also there isn't that big of a spread between the Veefer and the S4R (well, there is, but hear me out on this one), but between the CBR and the S4R you have two totally different machines, which depending on your mood that day could keep you happy. Good Luck...

Hey Wayne,
I ride both a Ducati Monster and a VFR like your's. Obviously they are pretty different machines. For me the Ducati is about riding around more like a sport bike or (gasp!) a cruiser. It doesn't have the wind protetion or the riding position of the VFR so it is not as comfortable for long distance trips. Its strength is more like a sport bike - riding around town. It's very good on the twisties and with your skill you'll pace about anything.
I've done 200 & 300 mile days on the Monster and it's a challenge. The biggest problem for me is the reach to the bars (something mentioned in the last issue of Cycle World). You can go with bar risers for less than a $100 and they give you about an inch rise w/o needing to change anything. A throttle lock (Vista Cruise universal) has helped me. The other weak point is the stock seat. It's better than the stock VFR seat, but for longer trips you might want to look at a Sargent.
This is just my experience, YMMV.
Go for it; you won't regret the Monster.

I'd say to keep the VFR as it can cover both sport riding and touring and sell the 600RR for the Monster. Unless, of course, you can afford to have all three.

but wayne i thought you loved your vfrif i was you i would keep the rr and sell the vfr. you seem to have no problem logging miles on the rr. plus the vfr is very expensive to maintain. 17 dollar spark plugs, complicated valve adjustment etc...:

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
I'd say keep the VFR for cold weather riding and get rid of the 600RR. The VFR is obviously better for long distance riding than either of the other bikes as well.
The colder it gets the more I like my VFR, the warmer it gets, the more I like naked bikes.
Unless that monstrous, hideously ugly catalytic converter on the S4R turns into a space heater just like the VFR. Maybe it is easier to remove on the Monster though.
Wayne,
Knowing that you only use the VFR for commuting and that it only has 5,000 miles on it, and knowing that you love to ride the RR even on your longest trips, I'd keep the RR and sell the VFR. It seems that the VFR isn't your prized pony in the stable. Let it go to a loving home to make room for the Italian beast. Did you test ride the S4R yet?
Edit: By the way, sorry for giving you the Ducati bug. I thought I had been immunized but I guess not. That Ducati bug is a tough one to shake. Looks like you're screwed for life![]()
Yup got the itch. and I can't shake it. Got an appointment Wednesday ta talk about a red one. And am expecting a call about a blue one today. I'm just gonna trade the VFR. Don't wanna go through the BS of a private sale. Takes too long.
Well...........It's a done deal. I put a deposit on the S4R at Great Bay. Traded the VFR. Kept the RR and now will have a Ducati Monster. Sorry Tim, I really like the metal flake in the paint. And the price was right. Kinda sick of riding red too. Should have it by Saturday.
I am so freakin happy.![]()

Thats great Wayne. At least you don't have the same exhaust as I do. Did you get the deal that was offered to me at Great Bay? I can't wait to see it. Oh wait, I have one in the garage that I can look at. Please tell me that you're gonna change out the exhaust and clutch cover though. Its not a Duc until you unleash the beast within.
Just to warn you though. Whenever you are out on a Ducati with a dry clutch and vented clutch cover, you will get many people saying "I think your bike is broken" and "is it supposed to sound like that?" But that's where the aftermarket exhaust comes in handy because you can't hear anything but the bike.
Congrats Wayne, and welcome to the Desmo family![]()
Also, I've never seen anyone use this smiley, so I will now![]()
congrats wayne cant wait to ride it,i mean see it....![]()
good luck with it,.....
Welcome to Ducatisi!!!!!![]()
Tim is right, once you get a taste, you're hooked.
Sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY!!!!!!!!
Wayne, I want to officially welcome you to a few new message boards that are brand specific to answer any questions that you might have about your newly found obsession.
Ducati Monster Board
Ducati.ms Board
and if you want to talk to some race-geared Duc freaks that hate anyone on an RC51,
Speedzilla Forums
By the way, I am predicting that when the time comes to get rid of the 600RR, you will no doubt be looking for a 749 after getting the taste for the Ducs with your new Monster.
Good choice. I own one bike, an MS4. If I were to have a choice of your last two I'd definitely keep the RR, but then I'd prolly only ride it at the track b/c I like the S4 for overall street use.
I've ridden 300+ mile days on the S4 (stock seat and bars) without much problem so the ergo's have never bothered me as long as I maintain good posture.
Enjoy!

Hehe.. why would monster guys hate RC51s?
