Have any of you had your insurance company change their internal symbol for your bike for your policy?
I bought my policy through Commerce Insurance and the premium was 1320 a year. Today I got a bill stating that I owe $600 by the 19th or my policy will be canceled. Now I am a month behind but that still does not add up.
I am on the phone with my agent and they are telling me that my payments went from $120 to $333 a month based on the symbol change. I am not sure how that could happen and without any notification. I fear there is an error in their system because they stated my policy was increased from 1320 to 2105 and they span that over 11 payments. 2105/11 = 191.36 and NOT 333.
A bit confused here.

Leave commerce. Terrible ins company IMHO. Call liberty mutual and compare cost/coverage.
11 payments for the whole year. Your already partially through the year depending on your policy renewal date.
Looks like you may only have 6 or 7 payments left.
I'm still in shock that you pay that much for bike insurance!

on the phone with Liberty Mutual now getting a quote and appears to be $262.75 for both my bike and car which IMO is not too bad considering Geico is charging me $153/mo for my car alone so just under $100/mo for the bike. I am also going to call Encompass per another suggestion.
Looks like Commerce will be left behind this week.
check to make sure the quotes are for the same coverage. otherwise you're comparing apples to oranges.

That is one number comparison out of about 7 or 8 you should be comparing.
Also, did you get the 10% off for your MSF course?

Been with Commerce for over 10 years, no issues whatsoever. Paying $1800 for a bike, a car, and a truck with full coverage on all and $250k/$500k coverage w/ $500 deductibles.
Every time I price it with a different company, it's always more.
I also have my homeowners with them as well.
i had a agent tell me that generally state minimum policies cost more then 50/100 because they tend to be people who are wreckless and are more of a risk. food for thought

Married has nothing to do with insurance rates. And I an a 99, so I am at the lowest rate possible. I also live in a zone 1 area of MA, the lowest rate area in the state.
So, things to do to lower your rate:
1) get older
2) stop getting caught
3) move to the sticks

I'm fairly certain I wouldn't even own a street bike if this was the cost. Are you young? Is Lynn a bad area? Gixxahhhh 1000? I pay $95/year for full coverage on my Buell - single guy, 28, but homeowner and no tickets.
And in CT, so I have no idea what "symbol" is, so this is probably relatively irrelevant.
