Yeah, wtf is a 'symbol'?!
Is this maybe the tickets catching up with you?
Althought at these kinds of insurance rates I would easily give up riding. Usetah pay ~$100/yr. Even when I was a 17 y/o in high school riding around on my 400, I think it was $98/yr back then.
I'm up to $300/yr now that I increased my coverages and and added collision and theft for the new bike. Yeah, I said it, theft coverage on a V-Strom!
Were I you I'd swap the CBR for something less theft-worthy. $1200/yr for insuring a toy is insane... in my humblest of opinions.
According to the agent the Symbol is just how they represent the bike internally. When they changed the symbol it changed the bike and increased the costs to insure that bike model.
I just need to move away from Lynn and somewhere to the suburbs to get my rates to drop. When I moved here my insurance on my car went from 800/yr to 0ver 1800/yr due to the "area". I can only assume the same reason the bike is costing so much.
from what I gather searching google the symbol is the number classification of the vehicle. I had never heard of it before this but looking at my insurance paperwork its on there just without any explanation of what it is. just says "Symbol 12"

In that case, I'd be annoyed too. The bike hasn't changed. Maybe somebody fubar'ed the original quote.
I was thinking maybe they were using the symbol for his old bike. Then they finally caught it or the symbols changed to reflect new models. Seems very much like they screwed up though or are trying to screw him whether on purpose or through stupidity.

I pay $85/month for a 2011 streetfighter S ...living in quincy.
I used to live in Roxbury near my university. My insurance on my old '97 CBR600 dropped from $550 to $320 when I moved to quincy.
No tickets on my record yet, but I dont have much of a driving record here as well, got a license in March '09.
And i have been a liberty mutual customer in all these ~3 years here. changed 3 bikes so far and I have had good customer service from them. They helped me tow my bike about 10miles for $17, even though I wasn't enrolled in their Roadside assistance program.
EDIT: and, when I found out they hadn't given me a MSF rider's course discount the previous two years, they applied it to all my previous policies and refunded me the amount ..that was awesome i think.

There’s just engineering, skill, and luck.
-1988 Kawasaki Ninja 750 - sold

-2011 Ducati Streetfighter S - current
Yep I think Liberty Mutual will be who I will go with as they were the cheapest for the apples to apples coverage.
Though I did have someone point out that Geico has me at 25,000 property damage for my car. I need to fix that and the switch will push that to 100,000 and still cheaper than Geico
My rates are due to having 2 points on my license and living in Lynn. I expect it will increase again in a few months for the 2 points I earned Monday night
I was told the 2 things that effected my rate were:
1.) Living in Lynn
2.) Endorsement was only a couple weeks ago.
I really wanted to buy my bike insurance from Liberty. They have my auto and home policies. There is a large number of people in the area employed by Liberty, including friends and friends of friends.
But their bike number was silly high for me, like 2x higher than my current policy. And yes, I *think* I am doing an apples to apples comparison.

Joe, your quotes are high because you live in Lynn. Its one of the higher priced cities to 'garage' your bike in.
Edit: Duh, you just said that...(I didnt read page 2 of this thread before I posted)
