    Internet purchase advice / Marchesini

So I do a fair amount of purchases on line for modifying the bike (ebay, message boards, etc.). I think that my expectations are pretty reasonable and I usually have a good idea of pricing going into it, what I can sell the product for down the line if I sell the bike, etc. The point is I am fairly tight with my money having a family to raise, but I still splurge from time to time. I have been looking for a 10 spoke front Marchesini wheel for a 996 (aluminum or magnesium) for a while to match my rear that I purchased earlier this year. I like both the look and loss of weight. I found a set and the guy who is a reputable seller wanted $2K firm for a magnesium set (listed as excellent condition). To me this is all the money for a used set, but I was getting a bit impatient. I found a guy who wanted the rear so we paid the guy individually and he was willing to split the set and ship seperate. So I got the wheel in and it's obvious to me that the wheel was down. I think it's still straight, but I am feeling a little sour at the moment as it was misrepresented. I am letting the guy know I am not thrilled, but at this point not really sure what I want the outcome to be (send the wheel back, throw me $100, etc.). I understand that what I purchased was used, but am I out of line on being upset about this? Any advice?

If that's his idea of "excellent condition"... Then I would hate to see his idea of "slightly damaged".

Dispute with Ebay and Paypall and let them do the dirty work for you...

    It's misrepresentation and fraudulent.

Tell him you want remuneration. Full refund for return of the wheel or cost of stripping/powdercoating. Call him out on the site you saw the wheels advertised on.

LOL, I'd be halfway to wherever the guy lives to wrap it around his neck if it were me.

I have never really been burned by internet purchases, touch wood.

But it came with a Pirelli tire as well. So do Boston Moto tire changes look like this afterward?

To be honest I am not super picky and I can fix it myself for the most part. I expected maybe some tire change marks, rock chips etc. When I bought the wheels my logic really is well in a few years I can sell them and recoup most of my investment. My wife is the one fired up after knowing full well what I paid for it. She can be a little emotional so I was looking for some additional opinions. So far it sounds like I am not out of line.

It wasn't an Ebay purchase. I did pay with paypal, but I don't think they would do much from my understanding. The product did get delivered and that's all they really care about. I am still on the fence as to what I want to come out of it. I think the idea of reimbursing the cost to have it re-coated would go a long way with me.

a little $$ back isnt unreasonable IMO. dont wait too long though, after 30 days ebay/paypal wont help.

I would contact the guy NOW before he can say "oh well that happened after you got it." I would start the conversation off with the fact that you are dissatisfied and that he has two options, A)refund my money and pay for shipping back to him, B) he give you money back to pay for the damage to the rims.

To be honest, if I was selling something like that (haha actually I am, but forged alum.) I would note that those gouges are there...that is not a paint chip/scratch, that is a gouge into the magnesium that SHOULD be noted.
