Anyone use Iridium plugs? Anyone know if they foul less than standard plugs?
My fuel injected R1 is sluggish on startup and it seems like the plugs are fouling after cooling off or sitting overnight. My first thought is to change the plugs and see if there's an improvement. The bike has about 5000 miles on it. Anyone know if this is typical behavior for Yamaha products?
My Honda never did such strange things...

Q. For what? Being f*ckin' awesome?!
I think alot of the guys on the race teams use them, LRRS.
2018 Harley Road Glide
2000 Ducati 900ss
2003 Harley Softail Deuce
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought they were stock on my 929. I seem to rememeber being told that when I had them replaced.
I think Honda is putting them on for emissions reasons or something..
The VFR uses them.
BTW... they are $17 each, so if you're worried about $$ maybe it's not the best choice if Yamaha doesn't think you need them.
Ben
If your plugs are fouling, sounds more like a mixture problem. Personally, I'd spend the $100 you might spend on iridium plugs and get a dyno run with A/F output to find where your problem really lies.
Of course then you might need to spend another 300 to correct it, but hey it's only money![]()
Once you use them, you won't use anything else.
I just received 16 plugs for: Avalanche, gix 1k, 99 cbr 600 race bike.
You will burn cleaner and burn more.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I remember reading they are becoming standard equipment on newer bikes...
I believe Denso is the sole manufacturer of the plugs right now, but I thought they also OEM'd them to NGK to sell them branded under the NGK name.
I also thought I saw them for sale for $50 per set online, lemme double check and post a link for you guys. If it was $50 each instead of per set, I won't even bother!!

Hey todd.. Don't ya think you should leave the factory plugs in there for a while.. I mean if that mighty R-1 starts firing the right way I would hate to see you get scared and start riding like Heath..

Would get better times running the NGK's. If we wanted to slow the bike down we could run the denso's![]()
Oh, very interesting.
Thanks Mark

I bought them to try and cure a sluggish starting problem. The R1 Forum has some freaky suggestions for trying to fix sluggish starts, everything from pumping the clutch lever to sacrificing a chicken (calm down Scotty!!).
Replacing the plugs first made the most sense to me.
