Hey everyone, so i was riding around town yesterday and all of a sudden my clutch seemed to just develop a ton of slack. So i tightened it up a bit and now the friction zone/point where it disengages is way at the end of the travel of the clutch lever. if i loosen it the lever doesnt pick up all the slack it stops at a point and any slack that i put into it by loosening the lever just sits there and you can push the lever forward to pick it up rather than it picking up itself. anyone have any ideas as to what could have caused this or how to fix it?
EDIT* its a kawasaki Versys

Whats the bike? Is it a hydralic actuated wet clutch? Not enough info to even try at this .
Its not a hydraulic if you can adjust it at the lever (I'm assuming you are refering to a cable adjustment). How many miles on the cluctch and cable? Sounds like a stretched cable, possible the clutch spring(s) are a little worn or its due to replace the clutch plates. If the clutch is engaging a lot later in the lever travel than it used to it may be time for new clutch plates. Not sure what bike you have but there is probably another adjustment at the other end of the cable on the engine case too.
Easy to install a new cable and putting in new clutch plates is easy as well with plenty of do it yourself tutorials online if you never did it.
I would start with the cable..see if you have an adjuster by the engine case and tighten it up, see if that helps.
If you got some miles on the bike might be a good idea to buy a new cable and clutch plates.

i cant imagine it would be the clutch plates though since it was fairly sudden, ive been toying with the adjustment near the clutch cover, its pouring though today so ill have to see if its fixed next time im ambitious enough to take it out in the rain.
Here's a big question for you.
Have you recently changed the oil?
nope i havent
Sounds like the clutch cable sheath has collapsed. Also might be something like a broken return spring (part number 92145-0066). I can't imagine it's catastrophic.
thanks guys, im going to order a new return spring and hope that does something, i looked over the cable and everything seemed fine, maybe i should buy one anyway just as a backup anyway and keep it in the sidecase.
Check the adjuster at the engine end of the cable. Probably came loose.
Happened to me on my EX500 during a race. Just had to keep taking more slack out of the handlebar adjuster every time I was going up 4. At least you have time to tackle maintenance items while running race pace on an EX500.
