...and here is what I learned:
1) Yes, people do just park their gray nondescript cars in the middle of 50mph six lane highways. Why turn on the hazards? That'll just run down the battery.
2) Front wheel washouts take about 0.0001 seconds. Still trying to figure out if there was sand or dirt on the road or something else, because I could have sworn I've decelerated quite a bit faster than that in the past. OTOH that was probably on my track bike with race tires... Pretty sure I didn't just grab a big handful of brake because I remember slowing down for a second or two and thinking I was gonna make it. Need to practice more stoppies on my street bike I guess.
3) Thin deerskin gauntlet gloves look cool on a cafe racer but are totallly unsafe. Ripped right through on my left pinky ... my hand modeling career is currently in jeopardy. Doesn't matter how hot or uncomfortable they are, nothing but Held gloves on the street from now on.
4) Just like in the Hurt Report, the helmet chinbar took a lot of impact. Without a full face my lower jaw would look like my pinky.
5) A separated shoulder hurts like a biatch, although I guess I'm fortunate that I didn't break anything.
6) Wanna buy some track days? See my thread in the TTD section.

Glad you're ok!
Which Held gloves do you have? I've been rocking the Held Ninja gloves and they are extremely comfortable. Maybe you need to go up/down a size? Wear them more to break them in?
Sorry to hear about the crash... Someone was on a 6 lane highway parked with no hazards?
Ah man that sucks! Glad you're not beat up too bad...

That sux. Glad you are ok. I've been down a few times and having good gear has always saved my butt!
Heal up brother!
If all else fails, Lean more....
Just curious when and where this happened. Yesterday afternoon I saw an accident in the left-most lane of 128S around exit 42/Wakefield. There appeared to be at least 3 cars and a bike involved. Biker seemed to be up. Some woman was running around like a loony in the travel lanes and there were several very trashed cars. I was on my bike going north. Cops weren't there yet.
Whatever the case, hope you heal up.
no bikes currently
Glad you're OK...more or less. Your crash is 'Niveas' loss I guess!
Did you hit the car? Cheesh....I imagine the car in front of you swerved at the last second. Sucks....

Geez man, glad you're okay. Sounds like things got pretty extreme for you. You're very lucky that that is all the damage you took though going down on a 3 lane highway.

Thanks all for the kind words of encouragement. This accident occurred on the Lynnway (in Lynn) near where it splits to go to downtown Lynn and off east to Nahant. It's six lanes wide but there are stores and stuff south of there, so it's one of those roads where the speed limit is like 40 but the flow of traffic is typically faster because the road is so big.
Not sure why that car was stopped. When I first saw it I thought it was going slowly and accelerating, but when I next glanced at it I realized it was totally stationary with no brake lights on and I was going to hit it in like three seconds. I think it may have moved when I was sliding, it was still in front of me as I slid to stop.
And I should mention that I don't find my Held gloves (which I believe are Phantoms) uncomfortable, but they do sometimes get kind of hot. Really I have no excuse for not wearing them other than the fact that I thought my deerskin gloves were good up to 40mph and really they're only good up to 15.

I hear you... I went down end of July and separated my shoulder. Was about 2 weeks before I could do everything throughout a normal day without wincing from pain frequently. Took about 3 weeks before I felt comfortable with my shoulder to be back on the bike.
I can still currently feel the bone pop around from time to time and cause some pain. Also the bone is still raised a little too high. I'm hoping in a few more months it will be completely back to normal. Lot of people say it will never be the same again though unfortunately.
I recommend getting the rubber band things and working with them as soon as you can they seem to have helped me a lot.
Good Luck!
