fuck it wear what you want then![]()

I'm with Mike (blackvfr) on this one. I think that more gear increases your chances of survival, in the event of a crash, thereby decreasing medical costs which are directly related to insurance rates. Additionally, as Mike mentioned, there are other reasons to wear the proper gear aside from the possibility of crashing.
I believe we had a great case in point which was recently posted on this board. The kid with the brand new GIXXA lost control and t-boned a car. He had no helmet and no other gear. The police even said that a helmet would have saved him.
Sorry, Randy but I also think that your argument is pretty lame.
But, fuck it, everybody can do whatever they want. Even if it is just plain stupid. It's all fun and games until somebody gets hurt!

EVERYBODY'S RIGHT..... MOMMY, DADDY, STOP FIGHTING
but seriously folks, i can see both sides of the picture... do people like us that actually wear gear ride a little more conservatively when we're not wearing our gear? absolutely.... but the typical squid rides like an asshole reguardless. another point to bring up is if you crash wearing full gear & get hurt & go to the ER, your medical expenses are STILL gonna be pretty close to the damage inflicted on your bike (unless it's a spankin new GIXXAAHHHHH) Now, immagine how much it's gonna cost to do skin grafts over 50% of Senior Squidly's body cuz he crashed at 30 mph.
squids do raise rates.... but we all do our own little part to do it.

I like to ride naked. That makes me a squid, a pervert, and a woman-frightener.
If Darwin were alive today he'd do his research at a bike dealership.
I cant believe that anyone would actually suggest that riding a bike without gear is safer than riding with.![]()

hum doesn't huh, i have a third degree burn scare the size of a baseball on my left calf because i was dressed like that squid. thank god i atleast had a helmet on or i might be dead. you see flesh vs red hot fz1 headerpipe is a losing battle. you think the 12 times i went to the hospital for this burn was lost on insurance comps? of course i'm taking about health insurance. that not count? becouse these companys that offer car/bike/health insurance probley can't put 2 and 2 together right?
insurance rates are based on claims, not what people wear, sure an individual claim for someone not wearing gear "might" be higher, but it's also likey that someone going faster will have a higher claim too. making a statement that an individual not wearing gear increases insurance rates is like saying individual speeding increases everybody elses rates too.
it's a bogus arguement, yet safety nazi's repeat it all the time.
why is it that in NH where there is no helmet law, riders enjoy lower insurance rates than in MA there there is a helmet law....
why? cause in MA there is more traffic, more likelyhood of claim regardless of what people wear.

Because when you go down without a helmet in NH there's only minimal insurance that has to be paid-out from the insurance co.sOriginally posted by RandyO

In NH that is "Gear" Shorts, wife beater, and teva sandals is considered gear. Come and hang around Manchester on a friday night for an hour or two and you'll see what I mean. I pull up to a light with my helemt jacket and gloves and boots on and they look at me like I am an alien.
It's all what your used to. If you don't know any better why would you wear gear right?
nuff said horse is dead!!!!
KB
would not have helped me
i was full squid no helmet, no glasses , no gloves, flip flops on
wife beater

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
the point i'm trying to make is this. i would have not had to have maid a claim on my insurance had i had on the right gear. when you get to the hospital they ask what happened. what ever reason you give it is recorded and gets to the insurance comp's one way or the other.
all reported accidents end up in a report. you will hear it on the news x number of people hurt killed on motorcycles/atv's this year. insurance comp's look at this and it helps them set rates. a standard rate, regardless of what you the individual personal record is.
when wearing the right gear the chances of weather, bugs, etc.. distracting you while you consentrate on riding is reduced. but thats my view. mmmkk![]()
& dont hit anything.
gear saves ya from road rash for the most part .
ie road rash is for the most part aint going 2 kill ya .
your most apt 2 get rashed up by loosing controll of you bike in a turn low siding witch is your fault .
i go faster in turns in my gear so more apt 2 go down![]()
how did you crash ?
if what your saying is you wont ride with no gear i'm so glad i live in the usa
people hurt killed on motorcycles/atv's this year
the insurance ind. has the stats. & know better then we .
don't you think that using gear would b mandated .
the gear ind. would love it
i'm not saying gears not safer so dont try 2 twist this
why do we use seat belts ?
the only thing i can tell you is good riding skills will save you not your gear ........
disclamer shit happens![]()

gear saved me from getting severely rashed at the bare minimum.
i can't prove it, but i'm also convinced that the wrist-strap on my gloves saved my fractured radius from becoming a compound fracture.
so yes, gear will help you if you're hit by a cage. (or rather, if you hit one)

There was a report around last year that analyzed all of the crashes that took place in NH (I think it was NH, although it could have been ME or MA???)
It described who was crashing, why, where…..
Does anyone know where to find it???
