    Laguna MotoGP and My Honeymoon...

Has anyone here ever been to a MotoGP race and know the schedule/access for spectators on the days before the race?

Here's the story...I am getting married this summer and we are going to Napa Valley, as well as a few other places in California for our honeymoon. The last three days of the trip are still wide open, and as of now the plan is to keep it that way so we can play it by ear and do what we want. We will be staying in San Francisco and have a car to go wherever we want while we are there. I just realized the other day that those last three days happen to fall on the same dates as the race.

The problem is she isn't into motorcycle racing at all, so this particular event would be all about me, which I don't want to do on our honeymoon. She did say that it would be kind of fun to see the bikes run but doesn't want to make an entire day out of it and deal with the crowds etc. I told her I would be happy just watching them practice or qualify for a couple of hours and she said she wouldn't mind that at all. In fact she seemed to think it was a good idea after I mentioned it so I think I am on to something here.

Is it easy to get tickets to watch practice or qualifying? Do they sell out quick? Will the crowds still be rediculous during these times?

Also, is there anything to do within an hour of the track that I could tie into this part of the trip? I think it would be a sealed deal if I could come up with something nearby that she would be interested in doing before or after we visit the track.

With a race that popular you're going to have to deal with crowds all weekend regardless. They will be heavier on raceday, sure, but still.

With that said, why not skip the other days, practice and qualifying, etc, and take her to the race?

It sounds like you have her interested in one day at the track, might as well make it be the one day to be there

I was hoping that during practice and qualifying the crowds would be light enough for us to stroll in, hang out for three hours or so, and then leave with out having to deal with long lines and traffic that could stretch things longer than we want to be.

Monterey will have plenty for us to do so I think I can pull it off. The only problem is...while I know there will be a lot of people, will the crowds be light enough for us to just hang out for the afternoon? Sitting in a ton of traffic on the way in and out for something that only I am interested in doing kind of puts a damper on the whole experience for me. It's our honeymoon and I don't want to put her through that if she isn't totally up for it.

I haven't been to Laguna but in Indy you could pretty easily check out some practices and stuff without much hassle. No idea what tickets would be for it as I've always gone w/ a weekend ticket myself though.

She might be pleasantly surprised, from my experience the entire event while still centered around the racing/bikes is usually pretty fun for anyone. They do a pretty good job of making it a complete experience above sitting in the stands watching the bikes on track.

Got married (now divorced) in Monterey. A beautiful place indeed.....best part was my rental car during the honeymoon

The rental company was excellent to work with and delivered the car.

Also....the White House Inn in Napa is a fantastic place to stay if you are looking for options.

Laguna is big, hot, and somewhat boring even if you are into bikes. Skip it.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

The answer is, two great places where it's fun to ride?

Oh, I thought we were playing Jeopardy with the thread title.

went to laguna few years back..
We took one of the busses the event had organized had from outside of monterrey to the track.

it was well organized but..... i doubt your fiancee would put up with it, its not a simple hop on bus be there in 5 minutes thing.. it would eat up at least 5 hours of your time to get 2-2.5 hrs track time

Good choice of Napa though for the honeymoon...
We're gettign married in august in sonoma, then vacationing in Tahoe

check out alpha omega winery... great wines

I think we are going to skip the race...Like I was saying...its OUR honemoon and I thinks it would be better for me to leave it being about us not me. Knowing her she will say she wants to go just for me and I am not going down that road.

We will definately be going to Monterey though...I started researching it on lunch and in about 5 minutes came up with a bunch more shit to do. It looks pretty nice out there. We are very outdoorsy (she surfs, we both hike and bike) so it looks like those last three days will be there.
