    Laptop On Bike

Does anyone commute to work and carry a laptop on their bike? I was wondering how bad it would be for my computer, or if there are any tricks to carrying it safely.. I was thinking about in a backpack, but am note sure???

    It's a Thinkpad A20M..

    Thanks...

Seems like leaving the zipper open is a good way to go from using it for holding your 2nd laptop to using it for holding your 3rd..

    Good Tip!

I hear if you use a tank bag keep it away from the magnets or you could lose your data. Don't have a tankbag though... Or a laptop.

I use the same approach as Josh. Just a run-of-the-mill backpack. My wife bought some foam at the fabric store and made a very simple pouch that goes inside the backpack to protect the laptop. For an hour trip, having it on my back works out fine. If I am riding longer than an hour, I usually strap the backpack to the rear seat with a cargo net. It starts to give me a sore back during a long trip.

I inherited a Tumi PC backpack from a former employee here at Lucent. They are quite expensive but have a really slick sling suspension for laptops. I've used it a few times on my bike with no ill effects.

Don't much care for wearing a backpack on a bike though. Could prove dangerous in a crash.

It's exactly like that one but in ballistic nylon instead of leather. Seems to be very well made.

    This is my method:

    1 - open rear compartment

    2 - insert computer

    3 - close compartment

    4 - ride to work

Yet another thing I love about the wing.

You'd be amazed at how the new wing is lowering the average age of riders.

I thought for sure I'd be one of the youngest at 37, but the Wing boards are full of riders even younger than me.

Most of us have the same story... which is that we'd never be caught dead on the "old" style wings, but this one is definitely a different animal.

Honda was smart offering test rides... I bet the ratio is pretty high of test riders to those that end up purchasing. 2 hours into my ride and I knew!

I used to use the old style Triumph tankbag (it's rectangular) to commute with my laptop. No issues, ever. It was an older IBM Thinkpad something-something POS. Shaking those fuckers around does not cause a problem. Tossing it down the road at 50 mph... that's a different story.

Personally, I don't like having anything on my back when I ride, I'm heavy enough, no need to more weight up top. Besides, I'd rather have it right in front of me on the tank so I can keep an eye on it.
