He was late riding home...knew sumpin was wrong...

Drew (Drewski on forum) was late getting home from work this morning (he left at 5:00pm and now it's 6am ish). He took the bike in and he wasn't answering my texts so I knew something was up. Either he is in the middle of riding home or he is in trouble and can't answer. Started the pacing near the window trying to hear for the exhaust down the street. Then the phone rings. It's Drew on the caller ID. Why is he calling me??? Something is wrong I just know it. My heart starts racing as I answer. "Hey Jen, there's a problem." I knew it.... "Clutch cable snapped and I'm stuck. But I'm right off our exit so only few miles away." Thank GOD thats the problem. Hopped in the car in my pj's drove down and gave him a push so he could pop it in 1st so he could get it home. I played cage blocker too so he didn't have to worry about stopping. Going to stop at PPS today to see if maybe they have a cable. I just replaced it last Feb too Don't these things last??

But wow, what a fright. Knowing something is amiss and just waiting. I am glad he is riding and I am so looking forward to next year when he has his own bike so we can go places together but still. Sometimes feel as though I may have open up another way for him to get hurt.

if you leave your bike outside, you should get a can of cable lube and lube your clutch cable eer now & then. might give it more life than a few months

    Two things:
    1. Yeah, that feeling sucks.

    2. Check to make sure it's not fraying on a sharp edge of the housing, particularly as it leaves the clutch perch. I went through a couple on my 250 before a friend who is also a bike tech suggested I look closely there (it happens with pedal-bikes and brake cables regularly)...and that was the problem.

Re: He was late riding home...knew sumpin was wrong...

Thanks for the advice. I think that we will def. use the cable lube once we get this replaced. I will also make sure that nothing is rubbing or has a chance to get frayed, this cable snapped at the clutch lever and I was surprised to hear Jen tell me that it was brand new last year. Hopefully the OEM cable will last longer than this one did.

hahaha, I've had to run/push/bump start a buddy with a broken clutch cable before, never a fun situation. Glad everything turned out ok. Duffy- be strong girl, and take comfort in the fact that you too inflict the same anxiety in your SO

Re: He was late riding home...knew sumpin was wrong...

Wow! Excellent upgrade. How in the hell did you find a 4yr old bike with no mileage? Nice score! Well, I know your going to ride the hell out of it and enjoy it while doing so. Hope she treats you well, congrats. Guess I'm going to have to start taking some trips down south to assist you in breaking it in. Um, I pretty much have the same schedule as before. Maybe Friday nights, but I think Saturdays are pretty much the only days that really work for me....or Sunday rides that don't end late (still work same place but they moved my hours to 3am start so unfortunately no more late nights for me) Guess we will need to arrange another twisty action pic ride to compensate for our new rides of course

PM me if you get a ride organized or...perhaps see one on this site you plan on joining and maybe I'll shoot down to attend as well. See you around bud.
