Well kinda, got going on wet roads went to shift from first to second and missed the shifter when attempting to shift to second (just a fuggin mistake)
rear tire started fishtailing from the engine braking, quickly saved it but was kinda fun![]()
Everything is fun if you save it.
Saw thread title... knew it was a jc thread.
Read first post... knew it was a jc post.

PS... you didn't learn how to fishtail, you learned how to make a mistake... luckily the bike recovered for you.![]()

My first couple times out riding, I learned quickly not to let the clutch out fast. Make that mistake in a turn and it's going to be a wild ride. Bad conditions means easy on the clutch. Especially for people like me who aren't very experienced. I'd also think a bike like yours, aggressive shifting in wet weather in low gears could result in the tire loosing traction even when you do nail the shift...

wait so the jcrawford next to the thread title didn't give it away, you actually had to read it to know
lol i know it was a mistakeThis was more a a joke thread about my mistake
Oh and I kinda feel I recovered it not the bike because I gave the bike the inputs. First thing was pull in the clutch and second was keeping the front wheel straight while letting it even itself out![]()
I'm really confused, I would define "fishtailing" as something done under acceleration

Doesn't that happen to just about anyone that has done some reasonably aggressive riding at the track? I mean going into at least turns 1 and 2 I always have the back end chattering around and I am by no means "fast".![]()

kb1, work on easing out the clutch...
When I downshift, I usually ease out the clutch as if I'm taking off from a stop in 2nd gear. Doing that would probably solve your rear wheel hop issues.

Isn't a chattering rear tire from a downshift just a sign that the rider didn't rev-match very well? Most rev-matched downshifts I make on my bike in corners seem to come out pretty smooth.
Granted I don't ride 9/10ths on the track like you guys.

To put it very simply, rear wheel hop typicaly occurrs because the rear tire is turning slower than the speed at which the bike is traveling. It grips, slips, grips, slips and the result is chatter or hop.
Likely causes? Either you didn't "blip" enough, or you didn't ease the clutch out slow enough, or a combination of both.
Personally, I do a little bit of both but I rely a little more on my clutch slip than my throttle blip (because a strong throttle blip affects my braking precision).

none of you fuckers can read. he was UPshifting. what I can't figure out is if you completely missed the shifter lever why did you let the clutch out before reaching for the lever again? I can't see how going from first to first would make the bike fishtail except for being hamfisted with the throttle.
