Sounds like something made in China! Wait, is it made in China?![]()

One of the bikes I'm looking at is the BMW R1200R. But they don't seem to have undue problem and are presumably still made in Germany.

What year is it? My 2010 S1000RR had a problem with the supplier hadn't hardened the cam shaft properly. Ended up shearing metal through the engine (both top an bottom end) and the entire thing had to be replaced. All under warranty, but you are right, it's a pain in the ass. Other problem...the S1000RR IS made/put together in Germany. Guess where my motor had to come from.
That's a shame, since when I testrode the F800GS, I liked it a lot. It seemed like the best overall adventure bike available from a functional standpoint -- big enough to be very competent on the road, including highway, yet small enough to not be completely unmanageable off-road. Guess we'll have to see how long it takes them to work out the bugs; if they can make it reliable, it would be the best bike on the market for packing up and riding to Peru or something.

Mark, it's going to take a while to convince people that Triumph makes a competent adventure/touring bike. Everyone still has BMW stuck in the mind for that segment. I'll admit, I wouldn't take a showroom stock XC on a hardcore adventure trip but browse the aftermarket suppliers a little and it can be a very worthy bike. Aftermarket more so for luggage and crash protection than reliability type stuff. But I'd say that goes for most manufacturers.
