Fuck, I have a Harley in the stable.
You dicks just don't know how good it is. I use to think the same way.
My Road King was probably bike# 12ish when got it. I Striped off some of the factory lead.
Tweaked it nice and simple like, now it rides like a MILF. And shows like a MILF too.
Best Sunday, date or hangover whip you can get.
Don't knock a brother on a Harley either. I know you may think they are a dirt bag. But they still have a common bond, they ride. And a lot of them ride hard!
So give your bike brothern, some street creed.
Don't be a hater.

Just got back from Americade. A gabazillion bikes or so; mostly HD baggers and Goldwings, maybe saw a dozen sport bikes. The vibe was real good though and it was a fun time. The number of folks running full face helmets and wearing more than a t-shirt for gear were seriously thin on the ground. I've seen more nuns at metal shows, and I don't mean the cool ones with leather habits and wearing gas masks.
It's about the "lifestyle" not riding. That's how The Motor Company got to be a six billion dollar corporation. The idea that they are tools of corporate brand marketing has never registered with most of them.
I wore a white FF helmet when riding the Roadster. Just about zero HD riders waved the entire time I owned the bike. The "big twin" owners (I mean their bikes, not their moobs) look down on Sportsters, and to them one with twin disks and serious suspension was about as interesting as a nun in a gas mask.
Ironically, sport bike guys and other Sportster riders were all over it. When I was getting it inspected in Boston, a group of black and hispanic kids on sport bikes pulled in for gas and they walked around it for 10 minutes, asking questions: they were really into personalizing their bikes so they loved the idea of a sporty HD. So at least for a short time I was an ambassador for HD riders as opposed to lifestyle dudes.
I sold it because it just wasn't sufficiently entertaining as a motorcycle. Put a couple thousand miles on it one month. It got decent mileage, never overheated in city traffic, was stable on the highway, sounded great and was a pleasant handling bike after the changes. But there wasn't much space for gear, the most I ever got on a tank of fuel was 116 miles (and one of my commutes is 56 miles one way), and you just can't push very hard in the corners. When I noticed that 9 times out of 10 when I walked out in the morning I'd take the V-Strom, I sold it.

i still would never own one
I scoped out your bike wheel to wheel and though it looked cool I didn't see one skull. You were doing it wrong.
Something that confused me was that it seemed that 95%+ of the bikes had full fairings and many had wind deflectors in the leg area. I thought the point of wearing yamekas and t-shirts was to be free in the breeze; all they needed was a sun canopy and they might as well be in a car. You can't knock a company for being so successful at making so many people whacky for a brand. If I was HD though, I would market a line of sun screen.
i notice a lot of the same stuff. i wear full face helmet and gear and a lot of guys dont' wave either, hah. if it wasn't my late uncles bike i probably would have never been interested in it. that being said its still a pain. oil changes are hilarious, esp the separate transmission oil where u have to take off an inspeciton cover and everything is nut and bolts instead of female threads a bolt goes into. makes shoving wrenches in weird places to hold a nut an unfortunate new past time of mine. also it vibes like crazy above 65 mph. that being said i think its a fun cruise around bike but i have about a 75 mile at a time limit with it or any time on the highway...
