My race bike has a total loss electrical system. This means that it does not have a regulator/rectifier and the stator is basically useless.
So, I have been using a Battery Tender between sessions and races.
Unfortunately, during hot track days, it tends to not be able to keep up with the demand of charging. So, toward the end of the day, the bike starts to sputter under load.
Does anyone know of a good quick charger (Preferably 3+amps, since Battery Tender PLus models are 1.25 amps.), which uses a connector?
Any chance your battery is Going out. I never had that problem with that bike.

New batter as of 3 months ago. I've already had to replace the coils once this season as well.
I just think the Battery Tender suck for high demand charging. They're great for long-term maintenance.
I found this one: http://www.batterymart.com/p-g3500-n...y-charger.html
Wonder if it's any good?
You cant use a regular 12V charger?
Since it has to be connected and disconnected often, it needs to have some sort of quick connect.
Battery Tender actually makes a 5 amp. http://batterytender.com/motorcycle/...12v-at-5a.html
Nobody makes a DIY wire harness?
Yeah chuckles, you're probably better building a different plug in than the one that comes with the tender. It'd be easy enough to do, and put on the corresponding connector on a regular battery charger.
Those little 16g wires would melt at that current.

Chuck,
Talk to Bill, Yknot, about the connectors. He has a set up on his hawk that you could likely get the parts and duplicate. I'm not talking about how he hooks in the charger but how he connects his batteries to the bike. They are larger red plastic couplings. You may be able to find a smaller version of them as well that are capable of the 5A the charger might be putting out.

I don't think your bike should be zapping your battery THAT badly that fast, sure you don't have a drain somewhere?
Why would Deltran supply the wiring with the 5A if it would possibly would melt?
I see that is has an inline fuse. I wonder if it's rated at a higher amperage than the 1.25 models?I actually talked to Bill about it at the track yesterday. He mentioned it, but I didn't have a chance to look at his setup.
this makes no sense. the bike doesnt have a R/R but it still has a stator? put the R/R back on. people go to total loss when they remove the stator to increase rev speed. if you still have a stator in the bike then there is no point in just removing the R/R...what does that save you? .03lbs? put the R/R back in, at the very least for track days.

you dont need to pull the cover, just see if there are stator wires coming out of the case (as long as they havent been cut off) if there are then test stator output

I won't be able to look at it until I get to the track tonight. But if I wanted to reinstate the charging system, are the RR and Stator all I need, since the rest seems to run fine of a charged battery?
yes

5 amp. Battery tender does well.
It also comes with a larger 3 wire connector.
You can use it with the 2 wire connector, but you won't get the 5 amps.
I was at autozone or advance the other day, they had a nice little selection of quick connects for schn brand chargers.
With that said, you can get a small charger and clip the ends, have 2 options. Have a standard quick connect for your bike, and then still have the option of clamps to use the charger on something else. But a lot of the newer electronic chargers are automatic and only give what the battery needs and not over charge and destroy your battery like you might allready have.
You said you battery was 3 months old ? Does that mean you have been overcharging it for 3 months ?
