So I'm looking into a track bike for the up and comming season in the $2000<$3000 range. I've been looking at Hobb's and Argo. What I found so far is this eBay Motors: 02 Suzuki GSXR 600 Engine Motor GSX-R (item 330202055988 end time Mar-05-08 10:14:56 PST) to go into this bike Catalog Page for Hobbs Automotive - 2001 SUZUKI GSX-R600. MY question is how easy is an engine swap? Is this a good idea or should I keep looking for a bike already running?
Send Hobbs a PM "Pastarocket" on this sight I am sure he has or can get what you want

I also know someone local that has a couple gsxr 600 motors that he would part with if you need one.

if your on a tight budget, id suggest buying a running bike. motor swaps always tend to run over a tight budget.

consider buying a used track bike that already has the suspension, rear sets, race plastic and such - you'll find a bunch for 3k any ways
Check the WERA board for some nice track stuff

You could even look in the LRRS classifieds.

The deal is it is my Project Hawk. I can make it into a streetbike, a racebike or part it out. (I would get the most from parting it out.)
It needs to be put together but I have all the pieces and it wouldn't take more than a weekend. Motor is 1mm over, it has an aftermarket rear shock (needs a rebuild) and has an upgraded stock front end.
Cheap starter racebike.I might even go cheaper.
Thing is I could just hold onto it. I don't have to sell it but if someone wants a cheap starter and it expands the Hawk nation...

how much do estimate a rebuild of the rear shock to be? any pictures before it was dismantled?
I have 2 progressive 415's and a 900rr. None of them are the good rear shocks but they are better than stock. I am sure Peter could fix up either for you, you have to ask him on pricing though.

cool, I'll PM him, maybe just put one of the 415's on and I can have the other one rebuilt while still having the bike rideable. any pics of the Hawk before you took it apart?
Not really, the motor is from one bike, the frame from another. I have a choice of a couple different tails...

Ive seen that GSXR in person and it would be a great trackbike if not for the motor issue. I would rock that thing if I could do a motor swap myself.....
