Way in to work today, about 2 miles from my house, some tool pulls out from a side street onto the main drag without stopping, without looking, just whips onto the street. Unfortunately, the pavement was wet, there were wet leaves all over the pavement, and my tires were cold. I was going about 40, and I tried to swerve around the schmuck since I didn't think I could brake enough in time, and all of a sudden I lost it... can't quite pick out the exact failure point...
Then its just super slow motion sliding down the road, tumbling, watching your bike slide ahead of you... and the asshole who cut you off leaving the scene either out of ignorance or just plain flight.
In the end I guess I am just really lucky... If I hadn't swerved, I am quite positive I would have crashed into the car pulling out given the pavement conditions (they pulled out about 50 ft in front of me max, just a 30 mph or so right hander onto the main drag without even checking to their left). I walked away with some rashed knees (nothing too bad, didn't even break through my jeans (I was tumbling pretty good), but about dollar bill sized patches of no skin that are currently sticking to the inside of my jeans in a fairly annoying fashion). The bike on the other hand, well I cracked the left side engine cover (whoosh there goes all the oil), some plastic scratches, slightly bent shifter, and something in the coolant system broke too cos that all rushed out... As far as I can tell, no subframe/fork issues...
Two peices of gear I was wearing performed well, my shoei rf900, and my cortech carbon track gloves... the gloves are barely scratched (no tears or stitching damage) and I slid on my hands a good bit...
In any case, gotta find me a new engine cover... and wait the 1.5 months for triumph to get off their ass and get it here.
But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.
Do yourself a favor and cover that rash with one of the 2nd skin products out on the market right now.
They work GREAT. Scrub the snot out of the rash. (yes it hurts but it's important) The put a nice layer of antibiotics on it and throw one of the extended stick 2nd skin bandages on. You don't need to change the bandage for a LONG time, and it will really reduce scarring.
The roads absolutely refuse to dry this week, it sucks.
There does seem to be plenty of traction this morning though... it is not as bad as a wet rainy day for some reason.
Ouch. Glad you're okay, sucks about the crash though.
good luck getting that thing back together!
heal quick!

Hang around the same corner at same time. Chances are he is from the area and was on his way to work himself and you can at least get a plate number and take it from there.

Thats a shitty way to end the season, but sounds like your OK for the most part.
That's why I don't ride on the street. TOO MANY ASSHOLES NOT PAYING ATTENTION!!!!!

Glad your here to post about it, and trust me... You chose wisely to swerve
I didn't have the chance at swerving. Oncoming car in my lane (illegal), not slowing, of course there is oncoming cars in the other lane too (legal). I could only brake and hope I'd just bounce off the front end... Well I bounced! just a little too hard...

Had 3 close calls today. Dont know if it's cause it's friday or if it's the holiday shopping but seems like drivers just dont put too much thought to the task at hand.
Oh, I just noticed that it is tomorrow already![]()
Dang! You got shocks, pegs... lucky! You ever take it off any sweet jumps?
whatever I could possibly type right now could never sum up the fucking pure rage that builds inside of me when shit like this happens. I hope that driver - and all drivers who leave the scene of a crash, for that matter - dies in a fire and rots in FUCKING HELL because they are the lowest fucking form of animal to ever take the shape of a human being.
total... fucking... bullshit..... FUCK THEM
Glad you're alright, bro... definitely paid a small price compared to what could have happened. See ya tomorrow night in Boston?![]()
