I'm looking at a bike that currently has a rebuilt title in Maine. The owner bought it as a crashed bike at an insurance auction, rebuilt it, then had it reinspected for legal road use. By explanation (haven't seen the bike) it was a relatively low speed front-end crash that damaged the forks but did not bend the frame. They have since been replaced.
The bike originally had a MA salvage title. Salvage bikes cannot be registered without reinspection.
This is the process he followed in Maine:
He showed them parts receipts, etc and got the vehicle reinspected in Maine. He has this "Reconstructed" title in hand, but the bike is not currently registered. The seller must reapply to the Maine BMV to change the title status back from salvage and obtain a new title. The new, reconstructed title will be stamped to reflect that the vehicle was once salvaged and rebuilt or repaired. A vehicle can be reregistered for the road once the new, reconstructed title is obtained.
The question is, will the Maine Reconstructed title be accepted by MA as a Reconstructed title, or will I have to go through the reinspection process required to get a salvage-titled bike retitled?
Well, after a 35 minute hold with the RMV, I got the answer.
No, the reconstructed title will not be accepted. It will be treated like a salvage bike and I will need the insurance adjuster's report, receipts, and will have to have it reinspected at a RMV facility.

Its not that bad....I've done 3 bikes at the Bridgewater Statie inspection station...as long as all the paperworks in order...I'm outt there in 30 minutes and off to the registry..

learn from others on here & dont bother trying to clear a salvaged title in MA. one dude failed after several attempts & put up a thread of his frustration. a friend of mine failed 3 times and gave up after 2+ years trying to clear the title on his bike.
If you plan on keeping the bike..and its a cheap price..its worth the hassle.I bought a Ninja that was crashed after 716 miles at the auction for 2500 bucks. It was a bitch finding parts for a new bike cheaply...but I managed...you need reciepts and a insurance report from the initial insurance report.

I'm going through the same thing. Bought a Bike with a "Repaired Vehicle" title from a guy in Maine and need to register in Ma. The only thing I'm worried about is getting the receipts for repairs and the original Ins. paperwork. Has anyone else gone through the process? Any tips or warnings you all can give?
Get used to sitting in the registry
Find a RMV with short lines, I suggest the one out in Southbridge, I only waited 10 minutes in line every time I've gone and they were actually friendly.
Friend: man riding this really hurts my balls
Me: Well you're not supposed to sit on your balls!
