mass attempting to pass new dog laws

aye i know some of you are dog lovers and shiiiiiiit so here call your reps and bug on them tell them to go fuck something else up!!!!!!!!!

As a Massachusetts resident who has registered a dog with the American Kennel Club over the past five years, the AKC would like to notify you of Massachusetts House Bill 5092. Opposed by both the American Kennel Club and its Massachusetts federation, the Massachusetts Federation of Dog Clubs, HB 5092 is a conglomeration of many anti-dog, anti-responsible dog owner, and anti-responsible dog breeder proposals.

For specific information on HB 5092, please click here to view AKC’s post.

    WHAT YOU CAN DO:

The AKC encourages all Massachusetts residents to contact their state representative and express their opposition to the draconian provisions of HB 5092. Furthermore, Massachusetts residents are encouraged to urge their representative to contact Representative Donato, Chairman of the House Steering, Policy, and Scheduling Committee, and respectfully request that he “send HB 5092 to study.”

For more information, contact AKC’s Government Relations Department at (919) 816-3720, or e-mail doglaw@akc.org.

    Thank You...
Asshole neighbors will always be an issue for dog owners...
My neighbor hates and is petrified of dogs, but she has never tried to be a jerk about me and my dog... Thank God.. But I have also never given her reason too.

    problems i see with it:

    1. if your dog barks during the evening or for more than 30 min or is deemed a nuisance it can be, in theory, killed

    2. if your breed of dog is Banned by the state you are not granfathered nor can you petition to keep your dog you must get rid of it.

    other than that pretty standard...

asshole neighbors who just tie there dog outside or let them just run around unattented with no care for any children, traffic and show no care for the dog is what this is aimed at.

Unfortunately... one person ruins it for everyone, which is why most laws are presented.

So why is this important to bikes..... oh wait, I get it now. I know of a few people here who have either hit/ or been hurt because of loose dogs and hit them on their bike.

Welcome to the one party state. The house passing a bad dog law and just about to pass a bill to limits kids riding dirt bikes, snowmobiles and ATVs even on private property. Now that we have Obamas man Deval Patric in charge of Mass it is a free for all on control and taxes. Wait if Obama wins say goodbye to guns and riding places off road public lands will close.Speed enforcement will go up as well. Since Devals been in we have had several grants tied to number of tickets written. The roads and bridges are falling apart but we are spending millions this yaer on bike paths. One town is getting 5 million just for their bike path and a bike path is planned from Pittafield to Boston?

I jsut read this out of curiousity, whats the problem? I dont get the opposition of it in the least. Seems to make perfect sense. Keep your dog to yourself, don't let it bother people that don't own it, and we'll have no problems.

Same here. the only part I can see that makes me uneasy (though I don't live in mass) is that if your breed gets banned, you are not grandfathered, even if your particular dog is a sweetheart who would not hurt anything. I have a pittie/boxer/whatever mix who hides from my cats, but if they decided to ban him I would have to get rid of him.....just doesn't seem to allow for exceptions, which punishes good people and good dogs.

Oh, your dog has AKC papers? My dog shits on papers.

Please keep in mind that while many "pitbull" type dogs seem docile and sweet, they could snap at any point in time. Now I don't know about ya'll, but I don't want to be there when that happens. I will take my chances with a breed that is less susceptible to random fits of aggression and ball-chewing.

Ok, I can see that, and totally agree with your point from your aspect, but unfortunatly, in this wonderful country often the few ruin things for the many. I doubt there's some sort of test to see if a dog is vicious, so if theres a PATTERN among dogs, such as pit bulls or whatever, they cant go and evaluate every pitbull in the state, even if they're good dogs (Delilah ). And if they MADE an exemption, and something set that dog off, and it hurt someone, I'm sure the state would have a mighty nice lawsuit on its hands.

Re: mass attempting to pass new dog laws

I read and agree with parts of this, and disagree with other parts. But this is how I look at it being a dog lover... Whenever I have a dog, its not a pet, it is a member of my family and a best friend. I treat it like I would treat any other family member or friend and so lets take my mentality and apply these new rules and regulations to people. If a town was say, a mostly Spanish population and there were about 10% white people living there and us white people were going around starting fights, mugging others and pooping on everyones lawn... would they say the white people are now banned or subject to be killed? I don't think so... These laws need to be written like they would be for men, women and children. After all, we also are just animals.

Most people that make these rules are not animal lovers, but animal opposition trying to come across in a "civil" manner.

I like the fact that they want to control dog breeding more I think thats great, there are way to many breeders that are in it for the money and dont treat the animals well. I think they should also have a clause in there that in order to be a licensed breeder the animal control officers should have the right to pop in unannounced at any given time (even 4am) and inspect the animals and the conditions they are living in.

As mentioned by mzdagrl here, whenever I read things like this I think of my friends pitbull who loves people and is so incredibly friendly and affectionate. Her two rottweilers are the same also. All great dogs. I think if a dog is deemed a dangerous animal they should be sent to an animal rehab facility and charges brought against the owner. I see that in the same category as having a gun in the home with children and other family members and leaving it fully loaded on the living room coffee table. And if an accident were to occur it should be the person in charge of it that faces the consequences for their carelessness.

    End of my rant...

To preface my argument, I agree with you here personally. BUT dogs are NOT people. No matter what you think, no matter what you argue, they're NOT people. If theres a dog running loose, and pooping on others lawn, the owner SHOULD be punished. And correct me if I'm wrong, for those offenses, they arent going to kick ALL the dogs out, just punish the owners who are allowed to let their dogs run amok. And since I dont currently OWN a dog, I agree, why should I have to clean shit up from my yard that doesnt belong to something I CHOOSE to own. I'm terrified of big dogs until I get to know them, ask Kitt and Delilah (shes not big, but shes a pit bull, yes, I'm biased, but they scare me). Why should I be frightened around my house and neighborhood just because some douchebag can't keep their dog on a leash, or fenced up in the yard. So I think the owner SHOULD be punished, and like I said, unless I missed something, they arent going to ban dogs for this sort of behavior, just punish the owner.

Re: mass attempting to pass new dog laws

I see where you are coming from Pittenger and they are all great points. I would not disagree with you on anything that you have said. I just think some things (like the pooping thing) is a little over the line. Granted any owner that has their dog not in a fenced in area or on a run should indeed have their dog leashed. And a lot of people actually do dispose of the poop their doge leave behind if on someone else's property or their own, but not all. I see it as the same as a habitual squirrel relieving itself on your lawn and so you decide to kill it or your at the beach and a seagull relieves itself on you or your property there so you break out the skeet shooting skills on it.

But like so many pointed out, it is the responsibility of the owner. The dogs don't know any better and I hate seeing them as the ones paying the price.

I can definitely see a fear of bigger dogs. That is normal and its actually a good fear to have because you never know. Whenever you approach a dog you dont know you should ask the owner if its friendly and ok for you to do so and do it slowly so your not perceived as a threat. In all honesty pitbulls scare me a bit, its not the breed I am afraid of per say, but its what they are capable of. Hell even when i play with my friends pitbull and rotties I have marks and cuts haha. Even if they are just happy to see you and they jump up on you it can hurt if your wearing short sleeves or they knock you over or anything. Dogs are never aware of their size.

P.S. I like to blow my analogies out of proportion to seem ridiculous as long as I am still keeping my point in tact haha.

Oh and thanks for posting this info originally, I dont have a dog right now since my work schedule doesnt allow me to, but there is a dog in my home (my moms dog) and its always good to be aware of any laws or changes in the works.

That's complete bullshit... ANY dog can snap at anytime!

I've seen Cocker Spaniels freak out and almost take a kids nose off, so I don't buy into the breed crap.

I agree 100% with you, its not the breed its the owner and how the dog was raised.

With the same argument any person can snap at any time, should we all stay away from everyone for the same reasons assuming everyone is potentially bad?

The difference is, seagulls and squirrels are WILD animals, dogs are domestic animals that someone owns, and feeds, and cares for, THUS, it becomes their responsibility. Nevermind the sheer size difference of the "treats" that are generally left behind. Its become common practice for owners to clean up after their dog, and I think it should be a law personally. These people have yards, if they want shit all over their yard, I really dont care, but I do not have a dog, I dont need a dog shitting all over my lawn.
